One of the most common front door sizes in American houses is 36 inches wide by 80 inches tall, and almost 2 inches thick. However, not all doors will have these measurements. Doors can be as narrow as 30 inches and as tall as 96 inches, and thickness can depend on the door material.
As with all door sizes, the ideal widths will vary for every home. However, according to the international residential code, the minimum width for front doors should be no less than 32 inches. This door width regulation is a matter of safety precaution and ensures you comply with building codes.
Standard Size for Interior Doors
The height for all passage doors must be a minimum of 80 inches and the standard width sizes for interior doors are 24”, 28”, 30”, 32” and 36”. The minimum recommended door width to allow persons with disabilities' to pass through is 36 inches.

24 or 27 inches (610 or 686 mm): This is a small type of door size that is normally only used for tight interiors or restricted spaces, such as an airing cupboard, utility room or laundry area. This size is too small for washrooms.

The most common exterior door size is 3 feet wide and 6 feet 8 inches tall. However, there are also slightly smaller doors called 2/3 doors, which are 2 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 8 inches tall.
The standard size for a front door is 36” x 80”, or about 3' x 6'7”. Beyond this, you can find exterior door sizes ranging from as narrow as 30” to as tall as 96”. If you have a double door entryway, the standard size will be 72” x 80”, or double the width of a single front door with the same height.
Standard Exterior Door Width
Exterior doors can be much larger than interior ones, but still, their width is most often 36 inches. That said, you can also find exterior doors that are smaller, coming in a standard size of 30 or 32 inch width.
If a door is just a little bit too wide, remove the hinges and trim the hinge-side stile only. But if you have to trim off both sides, you'll have to reposition the latching hardware.
A well fitted door should have a 2mm gap on either side and at the top. The gap at the bottom will depend on the thickness of your flooring/carpet. Plane the door as required, using an electric plane will help you get an even finish, and sand for a smooth finish.

So, if you have a bedroom door that is 30″ wide (which is considered a 2/6 or 2′-6″ door) just add 2″ to the width and frame it 32″ wide. The height is 80″ (which is considered 6/8 or 6′-8″) add 2-1/2″ to the actual door height and frame it 82-1/2″ high.

Check the door fit. Ideally, there should be a gap of about 1/8 inch at the top and along each side, and about 3/8 inch at the bottom. Use cardboard spacers or folded matchbooks (four thicknesses equals about 1/16 inch) along with shims underneath to maintain the spacing.
