What should I do if one of my products breaks? Complete a service request and follow the shipping instructions. Once we have your package in Olean, New York, skilled professionals will inspect the product to determine if it needs to be repaired or replaced with new product. We will then ship the product back to you.
If you have vintage products (products made before 1980), in most cases we can still service them. If we can't, we'll replace them. If you don't want your vintage products replaced, you can choose to have the original items returned to you when you create a service request.
Forever Sharpness Guarantee
For FREE sharpening of Double-D®- or straight-edge knives, complete a service request or send the product with an explanatory note to the address listed below. A nominal return shipping and handling fee applies. There is a 40 product limit per service request.
While only straight-edge knives can be sharpened at home, Cutco's Double-D® edge will stay sharp for years, due to its recessed edge design. When knives with those edges need sharpening, they should be sharpened at the factory, which is free as part of The Forever Guarantee.
Cutco knives are made using stamped steel which means they're cheaper to produce. Although there's nothing wrong with stamped knives, they don't always hold their edge as long as forged knives. That means that you'll have to sharpen stamped knives sooner than forged knives.
If you want a knife that offers great performance and simple maintenance, choose Cutco; for greater durability and a heavier blade, opt for Wusthof. You'll also want to consider factors like handle feel and blade shape, both of which generally point in Wusthof's direction.
In the sharpening phase, we do not recommend any current WD-40® Brand Products although some may be used later for storage & protection. For sharpening stones the lubrication can come from water or oil.
Cutting boards made of glass, granite, ceramic, or your dinner plate may look stylish or convenient, but they are the fastest way to destroy a knife's edge. These surfaces are harder than your knife's steel. So every time your blade contacts them, it suffers microscopic edge deformation, chipping, or even rolling.
Instead of buying a new set of kitchen knives, bring your old knives in and one of our trained specialists will sharpen to how sharp they were when you first popped them out of the package.

Chipped or Damaged Blades: Small chips in the blade can often be fixed by a professional knife sharpener who can grind the blade to remove the chips. For more extensive damage, the blade might need to be reshaped, which can alter the knife's original design but still make it quite usable.
Rule #1: It is important to use a knife adapted to what you want to do / food you want to prepare. For example, you shouldn't use a bread knife to slice a roast or use the blade of a paring knife and use it as a screwdriver (don't laugh, we've all done it!) Rule #2: Don't drop your knife on the floor.
