Use Peel Stop Triple Thick on wood, stucco, masonry, metal and vinyl siding. Surfaces should be clean, dry, sound, and free of dust, dirt, grime, grease, oil, wax, mildew, or any contamination that may interfere with adhesion.

Can Peelaway be used on metal? Peelaway 7 should be suitable for use on metal but Peelaway 1 may react with some metals, such as aluminium and zinc. In all cases, we would recommend trialling a small test patch first.
Gloss varnish will give the best protection; on metal you want satin at a minimum. You can always put a matte layer on top if you prefer a less shiny finish.
Recommended uses: Peel Stop® prevents peeling, blistering, checking, cracking and flaking on wood siding and trim, yellow pine, rough sawn cedar, textured plywood, chalking or powdering, concrete and concrete block, stucco and galvanized gutters.
You can paint over Zinsser Peel Stop after 2 hours. What is Zinsser Peel Stop used for? Zinsser Peel Stop is designed to be used on surfaces that are peeling, chalking or cracking. Even after painted surfaces have been scraped and sanded, tiny cracks and gaps can remain under the edges of old paint.
A 'bond coat' primer that's great for hard-to-stick surfaces, it offers excellent adhesion without sanding. Bulls Eye® 1-2-3 also prevents rust formation when applied over clean ferrous metal such as iron and steel.
To remove the peeling or cracked paint, apply chemical stripper (be sure to follow all packaging instructions), wait a few minutes until you see the paint bubbling off, then use a scraper to chip off the paint. Prime your fresh surface before adding a fresh coat of paint.
Finish With a Sealer
To prevent chipping, rusting, or fading, spread a clear-coated sealer over the final layer of paint. Be sure to choose a sealant meant for painted metal, as some sealers are made only for bare metal. You can apply the sealer with a sprayer, roller, or paintbrush.
To properly prepare new metal surfaces, use mineral spirits to remove grease and apply a rust-inhibitive primer before painting. For painted surfaces that are in sound condition, remove dust with a clean, dry cloth, de-gloss the surface with light sanding, and wipe with mineral spirits to ensure good adhesion.
All over the globe, Ammonia and Acetone are the two widely used chemicals to remove paint from the metal surface. When ammonia reacts with the metal, it stabilizes acrylic emulsions by raising the PH level. As a result of this, metal loosens its bond with the paint and allows the paint to peel off from metal.
Leaving on for not long enough could mean the process has not been completed. Leaving on too long could damage the substrate or you may find the Peelaway® blanket and paste becomes too hard and difficult to clean up.
As a starting point, you need to use paint specifically formulated for metal surfaces. This might be labeled as multi-surface paint or metal paint. If you don't use this paint, it will peel, blister or flake, completely ruining your finish.
Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, grease, oil, wax, mould or possible contaminates that may interfere with adhesion. Note: Any water-based or alkyd primer or paint may be used over Peel Stop.
Lower temperatures and higher humidity can prolong dry time. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. If conditions do not permit prompt drying, allow Peel Stop to dry overnight before priming or painting Do not apply Peel Stop is rain is expected within 8 hours of priming or topcoating.
Apply a galvanized metal primer. Repaint with a high-quality paint.
Rust-Oleum, Krylon color master, Behr pro-E600, and Rexpro metal sealers are the best paints and protectants for metal surfaces. You can use them both indoors and outdoors and they have better drying time and longevity. The painted surface can even withstand minor external abrasion.
Skipping primer can result in poor paint adhesion, leading to peeling, flaking, and chipping over time. This affects the appearance of the painted metal and reduces its durability and lifespan. The paint may only stick appropriately with primer, especially on smooth, shiny surfaces like aluminum or stainless steel.
Paint stripper is well suited to large bits of metal, outdoor metal or items with paint in hard-to-reach places. If you'd rather not use a chemical stripper, ever reliable vinegar or baking soda and heat can help to loosen paint.
Metal door in direct sun: If you are painting a metal front door that gets a lot of sun, use an oil-based exterior paint. A door that directly faces the harsh sun won't bubble or fade if painted using an oil-based exterior paint.
Prime the Metal
Priming metal before painting is almost always recommended, as it will prevent rust from bleeding through the new paint. Primer also helps paint stick to metal. If you couldn't get rid of all the rust in the previous step, coat the metal with a zinc chromate primer that's formulated for coating rust.

Everbrite Coating will seal moisture out of rusted metal to help prevent further corrosion and will prevent rust stains. On most metals, two coats of Everbrite Coating are recommended. On raw steel or rusted metal, 3 to 4 coats are recommended because the metal is very porous.
