Absolutely! Bar Keepers Friend is a great way to tackle tough stains.
BKF is safe to use on stainless steel, copper, brass, glass, fiberglass, ceramic, tile, chrome, Formica, porcelain, and Corian. Bar Keepers Friend effectively removes rust, mineral deposits, soap scum, lime, calcium scale, baked-on residue, tarnish, oxidation, silverware, and knife marks on plates.
Normal Cleaning
Abrasive cleaners, powders and abrasive cleaning pads should never be used on your laminate countertop - they will scratch and damage the laminate and make it susceptible to staining.
Counters. I have ugly old laminate Formica countertops, and Bar Keeper's Friend does a great job to cleaning the water stains. It also does a fine job of general cleaning, but I typically just use castile soap and water or vinegar and water for everyday countertop cleaning.
BKF cleans and polishes most hard, nonporous surfaces. However, never use BKF on the following: cast iron, granite, marble, wood, fabric, leather, or painted surfaces. Although many of our fans have used BKF on mirrors, gold, and silver (sterling silver is OK), we advise against it.
Laminate, Formica®, and Wilsonart® are all essentially the same thing; laminate is the substance, and Formica® and Wilsonart® are the brand names. Both types are widely marketed for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, and bar counters and available in a variety of colors and designs.
For stubborn stains on your Formica, blend a pasty mix of water and your choice of powdered cleanser. Depending on the size of your stain, you may not need more than a few tablespoons of water. Once you have your paste, smear it out over the stain, covering it completely.
Is Bar Keepers Friend abrasive? There are abrasive particles in all BKF products except for MORE Spray + Foam. The powder products contain more abrasive than the pre-diluted Soft Cleanser. For jobs that require additional scrubbing power, use one of our powder products.
BKF is the #1 non-bleach Cleanser in the market today. The most significant differences between BKF Cleanser and Comet or Ajax is 1) the absence of bleach AND our use of oxalic acid, 2) the quality of “scrubber” used, and 3) the detergents used.
Use a multi-surface cleaner such as Windex® Multi-Surface Disinfectant Cleaner to clean and shine countertops made of sealed granite, sealed marble, Corian®, Formica® and more. For a gentle clean that also works on a variety of surfaces, try Windex® Vinegar Glass Cleaner.
You can also use a white vinegar and water solution to clean formica. Mix together equal parts white vinegar and water and then apply to the surface. Spray high gloss surfaces with glass cleaner.
Because formica is made from a laminate material, it can withstand a vast majority of household cleaners like all-purpose kitchen cleaners, dish soap, vinegar, and more. The material won't etch with acidic cleaners, nor will it blur from soap solutions.
Polishing your solid surface countertops will give them a high gloss and a smooth finish. You can use a commercial polishing compound or make your own using baking soda and water. Apply your polish with a solid cloth using rub down your countertop using circular motions.
Transform your laminate countertops using paint — the ultimate DIYer's friend. Faux granite is one of the most forgiving of all decorative painting projects — the mottled look is easy to get using sponges and a dabbing motion, and you can just keep going until it looks right.
Buff the scratches continuously using a soft cloth until the wax or polish has completely filled and hidden all the scratches. You should fill large and/or deep scratches with the color matching your countertop.
Formica: Formica doesn't like abrasive cleaners — including ammonia or bleach — so clean it only with a mild soap on a soft cloth with warm water.
Formica happens to be one of those surfaces that bleach will actually stain, most often leaving a yellowish discoloration. There are several ways to remove bleach from Formica. Some methods include the use of specialized stain removers, where in other instances you may only need some common household products.
Avoid using abrasive scrubbers on your laminate countertops, such as steel wool. To disinfect laminate countertops, spray them with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Wipe clean with a dry rag. Bleach can discolor your laminate surfaces, so stick to less corrosive cleaning products to disinfect.
