For the best results when tile and grout cleaning, choose cleaners wisely. Murphy® Oil Soap and other non-synthetic solutions are safe to use on tile and grout without wearing down either one, but other natural solutions include rubbing alcohol, particularly for more set spots of mildew.
You should absolutely NOT use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean your wood floors!
MULTIPURPOSE CLEANER
Better Homes And Gardens recommends using Murphy® Oil Soap on outdoor furniture to freshen up plastic, metal, glass or wood items. You can also use it on other Furniture, such as your wood dining table and chairs, end tables, nightstands and bed frames.
Sponge mops may push dirty water into grout lines, so instead use a cleaning cloth or a flat mop to apply the mixture. Clean ceramic tile floors with warm water or a mixture of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Add fresh water frequently to avoid cleaning with dirty water.
In short, the answer is NO.
Murphy's Oil Soap is not entirely safe on wood floors, despite many people saying so. Long term, this product will do more harm than good to your wood floors.
For heavy cleaning, dilute 1/2 cup Murphy per gallon. Clean well with wrung-out mop, and mop any excess water. No visible residue, no rinsing required.
Do NOT clean your floors with Murphy's Oil Soap, Mop and Glo, Orange Glo, Swiffer Wet Mop, furniture polish such as Pledge, vinegar, ammonia, or any pine cleaners! All of these cleaners, over time, will dull and damage the finish.
Choose the right floor mop: Clean tile with mild detergent and clean water using a rag or chamois-type mop ($33, Home Depot) rather than a sponge mop. These mops are best for cleaning tile because sponge mops push dirty water into the grout lines, making them harder to clean.
Mix a mild detergent with hot water and apply with a rag or chamois mop instead of a sponge mop. A sponge mop pushes dirty water into the grout and soils it. Change your bucket of cleaning solution often so you won't have a dirty mop that leaves a cloudy film of dirt on the floor.
When diluted properly, Murphy® Oil Soap Original Formula does not leave a residue. Despite the fact that it is called "oil soap," there is no "free oil" left behind. If you see a residue after applying Murphy® Oil Soap for the first time, it's likely that another cleaner was previously used.
These may look like great options when you're shopping around, but some of these will do more harm than good. One of the biggest culprits is Murphy's Oil Soap. Even though it says it is safe of wood, it actually leaves an oily film on the top of the hardwood.
Waste from residues : The product should not be allowed to enter drains, water courses or the soil.
Tile Floors Products
Just choose your favorite. All of them will leave your home smelling fresh and clean. You can also use Pine-Sol® Original Squirt 'N Mop®. It's safe for wood and hard nonporous surfaces like ceramic and porcelain tiles, and also sealed granite.
I've been using Murphys Oil Soap for about 4 years now and LOVE IT! THE SMELL IS FABULOUS! It leaves a shine that is picturesque! and since using Murphys Soaps, I have used nothing else on my hardwood floors.
SPOT CLEAN WHILE IT'S SOFT
Use an antibacterial cleaning solution or vinegar to spot clean the floors and lift hardened grease. Employ a natural cleaner like Murphy® Oil Soap Squirt & Mop Floor Cleaner on a regular basis to keep floors free of dirt and grime before it sets in.
Using a two sided bucket method (one side soap, one side rinse) or two buckets, mop with 1/2 cup vinegar with a drop of deter- gent or Murphy's Oil Soap mixed with warm water. The clean vinegar odor will go away shortly after the floor dries.
