Wash down the inside of the deep freezer with warm soapy water. You can also mix one cup (240 mL) of water, one teaspoon white vinegar, and one teaspoon dish soap in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the freezer walls and floor and then wipe down with a wet cloth. Wipe down the outside of the freezer.
Clean out and deep clean your freezer at least once a year. Kitchen gloves are optional, but can keep skin from sticking to cold, dry surfaces. Make a solution of hot water and vinegar and put it in a spray bottle. A solution of water and soap can also work, but vinegar is food safe and has no soapy film.
Unplug or turn off the freezer. Next, lay a thick towel on the bottom, boil a large pot of water, and once boiling, place the pot into the freezer on the towel, close the lid, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. During this time, the hot water will help melt. any ice that has built up inside the freezer.
Once you are happy that the chest freezer is not leaking, fill the chest freezer with water to the desired height. You may need to play around with this to get the levels right. Remember that you will be displacing a large amount of water once you hop in, so you don't want to fill it too high.
Refrigerators and Freezers
If your refrigerator or freezer was submerged in flood water, it should be replaced. Refrigerators and freezers contain insulation that could be wet if the units were under water. This insulation is difficult to reach without destroying the cabinet of the unit.

If odors remain, try any or all of the following:
Wipe inside of unit with equal parts vinegar and water. Vinegar provides acid which destroys mildew. Leave the door open and allow to air out for several days. Stuff both the refrigerator and freezer with rolled newspapers.
Start by emptying the freezer. Make a solution using one tablespoon of baking soda and one quart of warm water. Dip a sponge in the solution and clean the chest freezer, then dry thoroughly. Pay special attention to the door gasket and all the plastic parts.
Fill the tub less than three-fourths full. If you overfill the tub when you get in, you will have water coming over the sides and onto the floor. You will also want to get a digital plug-in timer. Just plug in your freezer to the timer and set the exact hours to keep it at the temperature you want.
Fill the freezer
Need to fill space? Fill it with everyday items you are likely to use up, such as sliced bread, milk, peas or you can tuck cold-packs for summer picnics into the empty spaces.
To avoid excess moisture buildup, minimize door openings. Get all items out at once, keep food organized, and close the door as soon as possible. An improper seal of the gaskets on the refrigerator or freezer doors could also cause humidity to form.
Reasons your freezer isn't freezing may include:
Malfunctioning evaporator fan. Broken start relay. Defective electronic controls. Faulty defrost temperature sensor.
When you put water inside the freezer it will turn into ice and the process of turning liquids into solids are called solidification. In most cases where a standard home freezer is used, it will take approximately three to four hours to freeze ice cubes.
To do this, place bowls of boiling water onto each shelf or into each compartment of your freezer. The heat and steam from this boiling water should be able to speed up the defrosting process in just a few minutes, so make sure you have some towels handy to wipe up the water.
If the paper slips outs, it's time for a freezer seal replacement. You can either call a professional service or replace it yourself. If you choose the DIY route, take the new seal out of the packaging and soak it in warm water for about 10 minutes while you remove the old one.
Freezers produce a lot of condensation that collects into the drain pan. If the drain pan is cracked, water may start to pool on the floor around your appliance. Take a peek at your user's manual to find the location of the drain pan. It's usually located at the bottom of your freezer.
