Whether you're sealing wallpaper to paint over or sealing adhesive on walls after removing wallpaper, use Kilz Original or Zinsser Coverstain and buy an OV respirator from Sherwin. Both are oil primers and make you sick. Kilz Original has a low odor version if you can find it. Oil primers seal and adhere 10/10.
Interior | Exterior Primer. KILZ® ADHESION Primer is a water-base, modified-acrylic primer specifically formulated to bond to a variety of 'tough-to-paint' surfaces.
Applying paint over grab adhesive involves careful technique. Start with a primer if necessary, then apply the paint in even, thin layers, allowing sufficient drying time between coats. The technique may vary depending on the project's specifics, but adhering to recommended guidelines ensures a smooth and even finish.

Original Kilz Primer allowed more seep through when put in two coats to two different walls in the same area, whereas Zinsser provided superior coverage.
An adhesive primer is usually a dilute solution of an adhesive in an organic solvent applied to a dried film with a thickness of 0.0015–0.05 mm. Some of its functions include • Improved wetting. • Protection of the adherend surface from oxidation after surface cleaning.
This interior and exterior primer is specially formulated to be a sound undercoat for paint and will help enhance the topcoat's performance. It has excellent adhesion to both interior and exterior surfaces including masonry, metal and excellent penetration for bare wood.
Some surfaces are especially “slick” and pose a unique challenge for even the best primers when trying to get a coating to stick to them. Some examples would be factory coated metal sidings, ceramic tile, glazed block, plastic and vinyl shutters, and surfaces with a high gloss finish.
Best for use in. Use on interior and exterior surfaces including woodwork, drywall, plaster, paneling, masonry, brick, painted metal and properly prepared glossy surfaces†.
Customers say Kilz Original Interior Primer is a reliable and effective solution for covering stains, odors, and dark colors, often achieving excellent results in just one coat.
And for projects that require even heavier lifting, KILZ Restoration™ offers the performance of a traditional oil-based primer in a water-based formula and can tackled the toughest odors, stains and even fire damage.
Shelf life under normal conditions is two years unopened. Partially used cans might develop skinning if not tightly sealed.
Kilz works to trap and seal odors, block stains, or even fill in porous surfaces. By doing so, it leaves a smooth base for fresh paint to go on smoothly and look its best.
KILZ's top competitors include 58 Foundations & Waterproofing, COAT, and Groupe Durieu.
Our paint pros recommend INSL-X Aqua Lock Plus Primer as the best drywall primer. Masonry, Brick, Stucco and Plaster: KILZ ORIGINAL INTERIOR/EXTERIOR Primer may be used on clean, dry, aged masonry surfaces that have cured (dried) at least 90 days. If masonry has cured less than 90 days, use KILZ PREMIUM or KILZ 2® Primers.
I personally use Zinsser oil-based Cover Stain on just about everything. And on the can, it says that it'll stick to anything without sanding. But even still, I would never paint something as slick as melamine without roughing up the surface a bit (or a lot) first.
KILZ Mold & Mildew Primer prevents mold and mildew growth on the primer film/primer surface. It is important to ensure that the surface is mold and mildew free before the primer and topcoat paint is applied. It is however, not supposed to be applied directly to mold (especially the black or yellowish, wet, slimy type).
Painting over wallpaper glue is possible but not recommended because the paint may reactivate the glue or the glue may weaken the paint.
Goo Gone Latex Paint Clean-Up lets you paint with abandon.
Mix some hot water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Use a spray bottle or sponge and gently apply to a section of the wall. You should see the sticker residue wipe away as it softens. Or if using a spray bottle, carefully scrape with a putty knife or other flat object to remove the softened glue.
