The efflorescence is nothing more than the minerals leaching out of the walls by way of the water from the other side. The drylock only forms a thin shell that holds it back for a while.It will work for a while as a bandade. Some people do this, and then fur out the walls, and add sheetrock which works good.
While this product may sound excellent so far, it may be too good to be true as there are some negative factors to consider before using it. These negative factors include the cost required depending on how many leaky areas currently exist, how long Drylok will last, and the root of the wet basement problem.
Penetrating sealers are the best defense against efflorescence. These silicone-based sealers work by penetrating the surface and reacting with free lime to form calcium silicate. It's like filling the capillaries and pores with cement to block the migration of water.
Fact: Eliminating soluble salts from your concrete and masonry will prevent efflorescence. Simple enough, right? While simple in theory, soluble salts are present in all cement-based substrates, and in most other masonry materials, both decorative and structural.
Once the water source is eliminated, most efflorescence (also called Calcium Carbonate or limestone) can be removed with abrasive techniques. Clear water repellents, silicone and acrylic coatings also may help you remove efflorescence as well. The coating will absorb water across a masonry surface and prevent efflorescence from recurring. Plus, the combination of warm water and white wine vinegar has been shown to eliminate efflorescence.
It's a painting issue that's easily overcome by the use of Zinsser Watertite®.
Once the surface is completely dry, you can apply SEALTIGHT or ULTRA MASONRY BLOCK SEALER to waterproof the surface and help keep efflorescence from forming again in the future.

A minimum of 2 coats is required for the fully transferable warranty to apply. Now, inspect the surface for any remaining pinholes and fill them in. If it still leaks, a random pore or pinhole is still open. Find it and fill it.
A stiff scrubbing brush and a dry brushing technique will remove the efflorescence. Muriatic acid can be used for efflorescence removal, but it poses risks such as discolouration and potential surface damage. Consider safer commercial solutions.
Typically, fixing efflorescence in basement walls, in your crawl space, or in your foundation requires sealing. You need to seal the walls, joints, cracks or anywhere else that's letting in moisture. This sealing process requires very specialized tools and materials that most DIY homeowners simply don't have access to.
The damp is the problem that is causing the flaking, and therefore the sealant will simply get wet again and start to come off. The real issue is that your home is not properly waterproofed. In all but very extreme cases, efflorescence will stop as capillaries in the stone become blocked by crystallized salts. Once the process stops, the white deposits will eventually wear off with use and exposure.
The acidity in the vinegar helps remove the efflorescence and calcium deposits by breaking down mineral crystals. After cleaning the surface, let dry for 48-72 hours (moisture content below 25%). The second (and easier!) method of cleaning is using RainguardPro Restore-N-Prep.
