Latex Paint Quality interior latex paints provide better long-term flexibility, that is, resistance to cracking and chipping. Latex paints also tend to resist yellowing with age in areas protected from sunlight. They emit fewer odors, clean up with water and are not flammable.
Latex paint is easy to clean up with soap and water, dries quickly, and emits fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to oil-based paints. It's widely used for both interior and exterior painting due to its durability, color retention, and resistance to mildew.
Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks when using latex paint. Latex paints are generally less durable than their oil-based counterparts. They tend to fade faster than oil-based paints. As a result, oil-painted surfaces will likely need to be repainted more often over time.
Both can work, but acrylic paint's elasticity and resistance to wear and tear make it better for high-touch areas and furniture. Latex paint works well for larger indoor projects where low toxicity and easy cleanup with a brush are priorities.
Latex paint isn't as durable as many other types of paint. It's not as resistant to scratches or abrasions as other certain types of paint are. This makes it less ideal for areas prone to wear-and-tear or high traffic, such as kitchens or hallways.
Latex paint won't stick to oil-based paint and will eventually peel off, as shown in the picture above.

Painting with an oil based paint over latex is OK but doing the reverse will cause you grief for many years to come since any further coats of paints applied will stick to the latex only.
Cons (with some equivocation)
LaTeX comes with a steeper learning curve than a word processor to get anything out of it, and tweaking the results to your liking can consume quite a bit of additional time. If you don't get a lot of pleasure from the results it produces, LaTeX is probably not for you.

So we've established that gloss or semi-gloss is the most durable option overall, but most of us don't want to live with high-shine walls.

So one way you can find out whether your paint is oil or latex-based is by rubbing a bit of nail polish remover, which is rich in acetone, onto a rag or paper towel and wiping the paint surface with it. If the paint is broken down and rubs off onto your rag or paper towel, you are dealing with latex paint.

If the paint does NOT come off, it is oil-based paint and you will need to prime the surface with a bonding primer before applying latex paint. The primer can be latex, but it has to be a product that is made to prepare the surface and help with adhesion and that says “bonding” on the label.
