I'm sorry to say but Murphy's Oil soap is NOT ALLOWED on finished wood floors. The only time Murphy's Oil soap is allowed on wood (I know, Right? It says it's allowed on the bottle so you will buy it) is when the wood is WAXED like pews in a church or some other old-fashioned wax-based finish.
Store Bought Cleaners:
One of the biggest culprits is Murphy's Oil Soap. Even though it says it is safe of wood, it actually leaves an oily film on the top of the hardwood. With the oil on there, it eliminates the ability to buff or coat the floor again.
Take your Murphy® Oil Soap further than you ever thought possible and spread some cleaning love around your home. Your bathrooms, leather products, landscaping, laundry and other household items will thank you.
For heavy cleaning, dilute 1/2 cup Murphy per gallon. Clean well with wrung-out mop, and mop any excess water. No visible residue, no rinsing required.
When diluted properly, Murphy® Oil Soap Original Formula does not leave a residue. Despite the fact that it is called "oil soap," there is no "free oil" left behind. If you see a residue after applying Murphy® Oil Soap for the first time, it's likely that another cleaner was previously used.
For additional protection, there are many products on the market, and some are hazardous to your furniture's health. Cleaners such as Pledge and Murphy's Oil Soap are not recommended because they leave a dull residue on the finish. Never use products containing ammonia on water base finishes.
Water (with a pH of 7) and dish soap (with a pH between 7 and 8) are always good options. The best cleaner, the one that is less likely to do damage to the wood is good old-fashioned elbow grease. Applied with a damp cloth, elbow grease should be effective at removing dirt and dust and even oil and grease build-up.
Dip a sponge or rag into a mixture of warm water and dish soap (vinegar works well too), then go about scrubbing any marks that you can find. Alternatively, consider using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. If you're in a hurry, you can just run a baby wipe over the trim.
The company continued to be run by the Murphy family for 80 years, when they sold it to Colgate. It is available in a concentrated liquid form which is then mixed with water, as well as pre-diluted form which comes in a trigger spray bottle.
Waste from residues : The product should not be allowed to enter drains, water courses or the soil.
