While homes come in all shapes and styles, most entry doors follow some common measurements. The most typical standard door width is 36 inches, paired with a height of 80 inches. However, don't worry if your measurements differ — standard door sizes can range from: Width: 30 to 45 inches.
However, the most common door size is 762mm wide and 1981mm high. When measuring for a new front door, keep in mind that the actual size of the aperture will be a little larger than the size of the door itself to account for the door frame.
For example, a nominal door size of 36 inches would fit into a rough opening 36 inches wide. The actual size of the door slab may be slightly smaller than the nominal size, typically by about 3/4 inch on each side, allowing for clearance around the door to ensure it can open and close smoothly.
For a standard 36-inch exterior door, the rough opening should typically be 38 inches wide and 82.5 inches tall. This allows for a 2-inch margin on the sides and a 0.5-inch margin at the top for the door frame.
Standard Interior Door Width
Some older closet doors are as narrow as 18 inches, but in modern homes they are 30 inches in width. The standard interior door width is 28 to 32 inches. Other sizes include 24 and 36 inches (the latter size is the optimal width to accommodate a person with disabilities).

Sidelight
A sidelight is a fixed glass panel with a frame that is mulled, or installed, on one or both sides of an exterior door. Sidelights, like doorlights, can consist of decorative or clear glass in a variety of sizes.
There is no such thing as a “standard width” for a front door with 2 sidelites* it has however, become popular in new construction to build for front doors that are 36” wide by 80” tall (to make homes accessible) and to have sidelites that are 12” wide by 80” tall (each—making the finished front opening 5' wide or 60” ...
Can you just buy an exterior door without the frame? Absolutely. All you have to do is purchase a slab door, which comes without a doorframe. This is ideal if your existing frame is in good condition but you still want to update or replace the door for aesthetic or functional reasons.
If you are replacing your entire door system, measurements will be based on the dimensions of the jamb (for interior doors) or the frame and sill (for exterior doors), rather than the dimensions of just the door slab as in the instructions above.

Standard Size for Exterior Doors
The standard size for an exterior door is 80 inches by 36 inches which is 6 ft, 8 inches by 3 ft. 96 inches or 8 ft. is now very common for newer homes and stock exterior doors are also commonly available in 30 and 32-inch widths.
The standard size for a front door is 36” x 80”, or about 3' x 6'7”. Beyond this, you can find exterior door sizes ranging from as narrow as 30” to as tall as 96”. If you have a double door entryway, the standard size will be 72” x 80”, or double the width of a single front door with the same height.
By comparison, a 2868 door is 2' 8" or 2 feet 8 inches wide and 6' by 8" (6 feet 8 inches) tall. A window is noted the same way; for example, a 4016 window is 4'0 wide by 1'6" tall.
Most internal door manufacturers advise different trimming tolerances so as a standard and to be on the safe side we advise that you don't trim more than 5mm per side. This is with the exception of LPD, which only allows 3mm on each side.
