Fireclay Manufactured from clay fired at an extremely high temperature, fireclay sinks are highly resistant to scratches, staining and chipping.
Joseph Corlett, LLC The Elkay Quartet Luxe in Ricotta (bright white) is the most dense and least likely to stain white composite sink on the market. Unlike fireclay, it's somewhat repairable. I've installed several; no complaints. You can't go wrong with a Whitehaven.
MaidPro recommends applying a dab of mineral oil every so often to protect against water stains. Granite composite (like my Silgranit sink) is slightly more durable and can handle cleaners such as vinegar and baking soda, as well as watered-down bleach for tough stains.
Stainless steel is the best guard against food and drink dropped into the sink due to the material not allowing any bacteria or stains to build up. Everything is kept spotlessly clean with just a simple wipe of a damp cloth!
Swap to a stainless Steel sink for an easy all-rounder

If you opt for a classic white porcelain farmhouse sink, it's very likely to get stained and will require regular cleaning to keep it sparkling.
They Are Smooth & Non-Porous
Quartz is an incredibly smooth substance. Unlike many other materials, it is non-porous. It does not have the risk of catching food, oils, or acid in pores, which can wear down your sink after repeated exposure and are a hassle to clean.
Stainless Steel
And because it's heat and stain resistant, it's extremely easy to keep stainless steel sinks clean! One of the only drawbacks to stainless steel is that dropping dishes and utensils into the sink is very noisy. But when you look at all the other benefits, stainless wins overall!
It is very sleek and stylish with a modern look. It resists very critical stains and scratches as well. It requires only low maintenance and is easy to clean.
They Will Stain Over Time
White cast iron and porcelain sinks tend to show the most wear-and-tear compared to newer engineered materials like fireclay and composites. Most light stains can be removed with baking soda.
SILGRANIT sinks are fade, stain, chip and scratch-resistant, making them very easy to clean. However, like any heavy-duty kitchen fixture— they may show traces of wear over time. For a daily clean, mix water with soap and scrub gently with a sponge.
The brown stain is from a large amount of iron in your water. It is closely related to simple rust that you see on metal, which is iron oxide. Your water probably comes from groundwater that filtered through rocks containing iron-rich minerals on its way to the well.
Unfortunately, since the material is soft, it has a tendency to hold onto stains, scuff marks, and even scratches if you're not careful. That being said, non-abrasive cleaners are the best way to clean a porcelain sink.
The most important part is to clean your white composite sink daily and dry it after every use. This is the best way to prevent limescale and hard water stains.
Granite kitchen sinks: The best material for scratch, stain, and heat resistance. Granite sinks excel in durability, strength, and resistance to scratches, stains, and heat.
FIRECLAY. Fireclay is the most common material for farmhouse sinks. Formed using a mixture of feldspar, clay, and glaze and fired at high temperatures, causing the clay and glaze material to combine and harden.
Fireclay
Manufactured from clay fired at an extremely high temperature, fireclay sinks are highly resistant to scratches, staining and chipping. Cleanup is easy — just dish soap on a sponge, or use a mild abrasive cleanser for tougher marks. These are the sinks I often recommend for those who want a white kitchen sink.
Weight: Composite sinks are typically heavier than stainless steel sinks, which can make installation a bit more challenging. Ensure your benchtop can support the weight and consider consulting a professional installer if needed.
When a kitchen sink in Corian® shows signs of staining, it is usually the fault of limescale build-up which has absorbed food substances.
Most farmhouse sinks are durable but they can also become chipped, scratched, or stained if not taken care of.
When it comes to stain resistance and durability, quartz ranks at the top of the list. Knowing exactly how you need your countertop to perform and choosing the right material will bring you peace of mind in the future. With its wide range of colors and styles, there's a quartz countertop for every design aesthetic.
For major stains or grime on your Quartz sink, a 50/50 white vinegar and water solution will help. Use the Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser®or dip a cloth into the solution and rub away the grime or stain. The solution should then be rinsed off and dried to prevent damage to your sink's finish.
The downside is that the fireclay material can show surface scratches, especially if an object creates a hard impact. Luckily, it's easy to reduce blemishes by resting a simple sink grid at the basin.
