The variety Cobra 26 showed the lowest incidence of bacterial wilt during the two experiments (15% and 17.5%, respectively) which was not significantly different from that of the tested resistant varieties PADMA and Hawaii 7997 for which the IBW was 0%.

Promptly remove and dispose of Fusarium-infected plants to reduce pathogen spread to nearby hosts. Soil solarization before planting may be effective in reducing or delaying infection of subsequently planted hosts.
Many natural remedies boast antifungal properties, but tea tree oil often takes the crown as the most potent. Its effectiveness against a broad spectrum of fungi makes it a popular choice for treating various skin infections. Garlic is another strong contender, thanks to its allicin content.
Fungi, like other organisms, have natural predators, including fungivorous nematodes and arthropods that use them as an important food source.
High-sugar fruits, which include bananas, mangoes, figs, and raisins. Certain meats, such as processed meats and farm-raised fish. Grains that contain gluten, including wheat, barley, and rye. Dairy products high in lactose, such as milk and soft cheeses.
Tomato is the solanaceous crop most frequently affected by a Fusarium wilt disease in Kentucky, but Fusarium wilts can also occur on eggplant and pepper. Affected cucurbit crops include cucumber, watermelon, and occasionally muskmelon.
Prothioconazole is the only commercially available fungicide with proven efficacy. Azoxystrobin, prothioconazole and thiophanate-methyl led to the highest values for reduction of Fusarium wilt and did not cause phytotoxicity in watermelons.
Fusarium wilt affects tomato, eggplant and pepper. It can also survive on weeds such as pigweed, mallow and crabgrass. The fungus thrives in warmer weather (optimal soil temp 82°F) and is more severe in acidic soil. The pathogen most often enters through root wounds caused by cultivation or by nematode feeding.
Plants in the Solanaceae family that were evaluated include Nicotiana glauca, Solanum aculeastrum, Solanum mauritianum and Solanum seaforthianum. Leaf extracts from these plants demonstrated potent in vitro activities (minimum inhibitory concentrations <1.0 mg/mL) against nine Fusarium species (Table 2).
You can reduce the spread of Fusarium wilt by limiting overhead watering, sanitizing equipment and planting resistant cultivars. Infected seeds and transplants are also common vectors of the disease, so know your sources or take proactive measures to sterilize plants before introducing them into the growing area.
