Granit locks have a special black coating on the body and shackle that offers very high levels of corrosion protection. All these characteristics ensure that Granit padlocks are among the most secure in the world.
Part of the Squire Stronghold® range, the SS100CS is our strongest padlock yet. Featuring a closed 20mm hardened boron alloy steel shackle and dual key design, this padlock draws on over 240 years of heritage to deliver the ultimate in strong defences.
Shackleless Padlocks
No part of it is exposed, making it impossible to tamper with or cut the shackle. Shackleless padlocks are generally combined with a specific security “hasp,” or latch.
Deadbolt door locks are the most secure type of key lock and are commonly used on exterior house doors. Single and double cylinder locks are classified by strength from Grade 1 to Grade 3. Grade 1 is the highest and provides the best security.
Electromagnetic locks are only available fail safe—there is no magnetic bond when power is removed. Fail secure products are more common than fail safe due to security concerns. Power consumption may also be an issue. Fail secure products provide security when there is no power applied.
Up to 30x's stronger than standard deadbolts
Ultimate Lock has the ability to withstand up to 4000 pounds of force, to put things in perspective, most deadbolts can only withstand roughly 100-200 pounds of force.
Euro lock cylinders prone to lock snapping are found on almost all domestic houses that have UPVC doors, although a significant number of composite & aluminium doors use them too, and they're often used in commercial as well as domestic environments.
The shackle of this D lock uses 18mm of Max-Performance Hardened Steel to protect your bike. Making this yet another lock that's uncuttable with bolt cutters and virtually unbreakable with any hand-powered tool. Unlike some other locks in this review, the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit is compact and portable.
Deadbolts offer even stronger protection against burglary or break-in. They have lock bolts that move with the turning of a knob or key without a spring. Their unique locking mechanism is better equipped to resist physical attacks, battering and boring, making them less susceptible to a knife or hand tool.
ABUS Granit™: one of the world's most secure padlocks with a tensile resistance of over six tonnes. Granit locks have a tensile resistance of over six tonnes, making it almost impossible for attackers to release the shackle from the lock body by force.
Lock picking is a combination of skill, training, practice, specialist tools and patience. However, trust us, that is not the profile of the typical UK burglar. UK burglars are not highly skilled, trained lock pickers. They are thugs who try and batter their way through your door and lock.
If so it can be easily snapped! Lock snapping is one of the most common burglary methods, and it has been estimated around 27% of all burglaries are through snapping the lock. Lock snapping occurs when force is applied to the outside of the cylinder, using mole grips or similar.
Some pin-tumbler locks have modified pins that make picking more difficult. In the most common variation, the upper pins have a mushroom-shaped head. This odd shape causes the plug to shift early, before you have actually pushed the top pin all the way up. This makes it more difficult to put the pins in position.
What Can Bolt Cutters Not Cut Through? A heavy-duty, hardened steel chain with hexagonal links thwarts nearly every thief with a bolt cutter. Hexagonal links (or square or trapezoidal) make it impossible for bolt cutters to get a grip.
For example, even the famous Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit, undoubtedly the world's most secure portable bicycle lock up until now, featuring an unrivalled 18mm hardened steel shackle, can be defeated in 1 minute with a portable angle grinder. 1 minute 10 seconds to be exact.
Can a bolt cutter cut a Master Lock? You can not cut a Master lock using a bolt cutter. Since Master locks are made of hardened steel, using a standard cutter will be insufficient for this task. If there's a shackle, you can use the bolt cutter to get to the Master lock.
As shown in the video, lock snapping burglary is when the burglar uses a pair of mole grips and a flat-bladed screwdriver to gain entry via standard euro locks easily under 10 seconds.
Euro cylinder lock snapping is one of the most common forms of forced entry and occurs in about 27% of all burglaries. That is just under 1 in 3.

Each key has a complex rounded shape, this coupled with the magnetic element makes it an extremely hard lock to pick. The only way to gain access to the door would be for the key to be cloned, and in that case, a master locksmith would need to get their hands on the original key.
Basic Cylinder Locks
Deadbolts use a solid piece of metal to secure the door, while standard cylinder locks use a spring to help make it easier to lock the door. Unfortunately, the spring does not provide much security and it can easily be forced. Deadbolts, however, are still vulnerable to lock picking.
The large majority of lock attacks involve the use of force by intruders without the skills to perform surreptitious attacks. Any lock is vulnerable to force given enough time, and illegal entry is readily apparent. Most forceful attacks are directed at bolts and cylinders.
Homes in high-visibility places, like on corner lots, are far less likely to be broken into. There are simply too many potential ways to be seen. But townhomes, houses in the middle of the block, or houses in a cul-de-sac are much better targets.
These are the most common points of entry for home break-ins: Front door: 34% of burglars twist the doorknob and walk right in. First-floor windows: 23% use a first-floor open window to break into your home. Back door: 22% come in through the back door.
