Place a clean floor fan on the ground (or as low as possible). Then, put a large bucket of ice directly in front of the fan. You can also use a large, shallow roasting pan. The fan blows air over the ice, melting it and creating a refreshingly cool mist as it evaporates the sweat from your skin.
According to the GHI, placing a bucket of ice in front of a fan as a homemade AC unit is just as effective. 'As the air passes over the ice it will be chilled and will circulate refreshingly cold air around the room,' they explain.
Direction is also key: the fan should face inward, so it draws the cooler air into your abode and blows it in your direction. Try putting a separate window fan on the other side of your home as well, if you have a window there.
Homemade Misting Fan
Put an ice-filled bowl in front of the fan to help circulate the cool air throughout the house and keep the room cooler. In addition to keeping the room cool, doing so also helps save money on electricity.
Lay the cloth over the fan. As it blows the air out, it'll circulate through the cloth and the air will feel cooler. Make sure that the cloth cannot get caught on the fan in any way at all––if this is a possibility, don't use this method. Replace the cloth frequently, as they dry out.
Turn on the fan and put your bottles in front of it. The air will circulate around the ice, picking up its cold temperature and distributing it throughout your space. Keep the fan on as long as the bottles are frozen. Try to spread the bottles out so they don't block any of the fan's airstream.

A cross breeze is one of the best ways to keep a room cool with a fan. You can open windows on opposite ends of a room and put fans in each window. One fan should be placed facing inward on the side of your home, which receives the most shade because it will usually be the coolest.
The salt will lower the freezing point, causing the ice to melt slower and keeping your drinks colder for longer. You can also use salt to melt ice that has already formed. Simply sprinkle salt on top of the ice and watch as it melts. The salt will disrupt the ice crystals and cause them to melt faster.
'If you're looking for relief from the heat, it's best to put ice in front of a fan, not behind it,' he says. 'When this happens, the cold air from outside will enter through the open window, causing air pressure that pushes hot air out of your house naturally.
If you can get the air circulating, that helps. One fan pointed into the room and the other pointing out a different exit. E.g. in through the door, out through a window across the room. You can also put ice packs or just a bag of ice behind the fan and direct it straight at you.
The heater's biggest side effect is that it makes the air too dry which makes even normal breathing uncomfortable. A dish with water is kept in front of a heater so that the evaporating water vapours could keep the air in the room moist/humid.
