The 3 tapes used were Scotch-Blue Painters for Delicate Surfaces #2080, Scotch-Blue Painters for Multi-Surfaces #2090, and Scotch General Purpose Masking. Of these 3 choices, only the Scotch-Blue Painters Tape for Delicate Surfaces is recommended by 3M for use on hardwood flooring surfaces.

Duct tape has now become multipurpose and is used for general sealing, patching holes, packing boxes and repairs. Some duct tape can also stick to rough and uneven indoor and outdoor surfaces such as wood, stone, plaster, brick and metal.
If you are a wood flooring professional, you probably already know that adhesive tape is very harmful to gym floors. Coaches, athletic directors, and other contractors, however, may not know the dangers that tape pose; namely, the non-drying solvents, or plasticizers, found in tape can damage wood floor finishes.
The finish seals the wood and the result is a much weaker glue bond. To prevent this, I use masking tape to protect the joinery from any finish.
Adhesive is the key element
I love Frog tape because its adhesiveness bonds to all surfaces I work with. The Frog tape Blue bonds to wood baseboards, wallpaper, metal, plastic, stone and yes the rubber molding baseboards found in offices, churches and some residential areas.
Recommendation: We recommend Scotch-Blue™ Painter's Tape for Delicate Surfaces #2080 (orange core) for most wood floor applications. Other tapes manufactured by 3M may be preferable for other applications (see Hardwood Floor Tape Selector Guide below).
Thus, the masking tapes or the carpenters tape is used for the purpose of wall or wood activities. This particular tape is strong enough to stay on the surface for a longer time. But on the other hand, when it is peeled off, it does not leave any kind of residue on the surface.
Polyurethane-based adhesives which expand when curing, like Gorilla Glue, are ideal for gluing wood to metal. Because wood shrinks and expands due to moisture in the air and metal shrinks and expands with temperature; the trick is to find an adhesive both strong and flexible enough to be up for the job.
Gaffer Tape / Film Tape
This tape doesn't leave behind sticky residue, doesn't reflect light, and sticks to dusty surfaces.

Some brands of painter's tape feature an especially delicate adhesive formula. Even so, try to avoid taping finished wood on floors, trim, and baseboards.

The safest way to prevent this problem is to avoid putting tape on the hardwood flooring altogether. If you are installing protective paper or something similar to prevent damage, be sure to tape the paper together and not directly to the hardwood flooring.
Keep Your Floor Beautiful
In fact, trying to remove paint after it's dried onto the floor could damage it. To protect your wood floor, 3M recommends Scotch® Delicate Surface Painter's Tape.
In a word, YES. Using Frog Tape really does make a world of difference in the ease of the painting process. Despite the under the breath grumblings heard by old school painters around the globe, frog tape has “reinvented the wheel” of painter's tape in the best way possible.
FrogTape products should never be left up for more than 7 days in this application.
UHMW Slick Tape
Ultra-high-molecular-weight (UHMW) polyethylene tape is another great product to keep in the shop. This “slick tape” is perfect for making parts slide more easily. UHMW tape is perfect for use with jigs, fixtures, or on the face of a table saw rip fence. It also works wonders on wood drawer runners.
Polyvinyl acetate (PVA) glue is the most common type of wood glue. This type includes typical white and yellow glues, or what are commonly called “carpenter's glue.” Iit can be used for many – but not all – projects.
All of the VELCRO® Brand adhesives will stick to wood, the adhesive we would usually recommend is the rubber based PS14. If you require a semi-permanent fixing we would recommend using the Heavy-Duty tape, which is also a rubber based adhesive but has a much thicker layer of adhesive applied to the back of the tape.
