Paneling, furniture, flooring, and even wooden spoons can be damaged by a magic eraser. The water in the sponge can get into the fibers of the wood, especially because you are using an abrasive tool. This can cause swelling and discoloration.
Magic Erasers are abrasive and shouldn't be used on wood or any high gloss surface, including countertops, because they can dull the finish. Use Magic Erasers with caution on painted surfaces. Always spot test, no matter what you're cleaning.
Magic erasers are incredibly versatile and can be used for a variety of home hacks. Whether it's shining your silver, cleaning greasy residue on your oven or countertop or even removing soap scum or hard water stains from your bathroom faucets and sinks, Magic erasers are a quick and affordable solution to make your li.
Cleaning with Magic Erasers leaves behind microplastics, so it's not a good idea to clean dishware or cookware with them. Try Bar Keepers Friend next time you want to get those coffee stains out of your mug.
Drop a Magic Eraser corner straight into the toilet bowl. Before washing the toilet ring, let the Magic Eraser soak in the water for a few minutes. Once the stain is gone, swirl the Magic Eraser around the toilet bowl. To have the cleaning residue washed away, flush the toilet.
STEP FOUR: RINSE AND RETIRE.
Before you retire to the couch, rinse out your Magic Eraser and give your newly freshened surfaces a water wipe down, too. If what you cleaned will come in contact with food, you'll need to wipe it with a wet rag or paper towel, so it will be ready for the next time you meet again.
Simply wipe your Magic Eraser firmly across the glass shower doors with a firm, steady swipe. All it takes is a few wipes to break through soap scum and hard water. Your doors will go from grimy to shiny in no time at all.
“Faucets with black, bronze, or gold-colored coatings and finishes may get damaged or discolored by the vinegar's acidity. Vinegar also has a strong odor, though it's not toxic. However, if you're cleaning with it, it's always a good idea to ventilate the space.
Vinegar and Baking Soda Combination:
For tougher stains, you can create a cleaning solution by mixing equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Sprinkle baking soda on the surface you want to clean, then spray the vinegar solution. This creates a fizzing reaction that can help lift stains.
You'll generally know when your eraser needs to replaced because it will begin to crumble and fall apart. Another thing to keep in mind when using a magic eraser is that the material is abrasive, so you'll want to make sure that you're not using it on anything that could be damaged by an abrasive cleaner.
5. Don't use them to wipe down nonstick pots and pans. If you thought they could be used exactly like a dish sponge, then think again. Employing these heavy-duty cleaners to wipe down nonstick pots and pans will only scratch their surface — and release pesky chemicals from the coating into your food instead.
Like magic, the Magic Eraser will start powering through tough grime in just a few swipes. Before you know it, your clean bathtub with shine like the top of Mr. Clean's head! And remember, you can also use Magic Eraser to clean other surfaces too.
Glass, Including the Windshield
A magic eraser is a safe and effective cleaning tool to clean car glass. It won't scratch the glass and only removes dirt, such as insects, debris, haze, and smoke films. A clean windshield and windows are essential for a driver's safety and visibility.
Magic Eraser is made of superfine foam which is abrasive and can result in rashes or burns, even with gentle rubbing.
Just take a can of WD-40 (preferably one with a long flexible hose) and spray it inside of your faucet. The WD-40 will loosen up the hard water and make the diverter work as smoothly as day one. The same goes for a hard to turn shower knob, a sprits of WD-40 and it will work like brand new.
Don't use an abrasive sponge, as it can scratch the chrome (one of many bathroom cleaning mistakes). Then repeat with a damp cloth to rinse.
“Most glass shower doors will be lightly coated with a soapy scum, but this can be blitzed easily with a natural cleaning product such as vinegar,” Brosnan says. Start by combining two pumps of dish soap, like Dawn Platinum, with some white vinegar in a spray bottle.
Morgan Brashear, scientific communications manager at Procter & Gamble, says while the Magic Eraser is a great solution for cleaning dirt around the toilet bowl and the exterior of the toilet, it won't actually prevent unsightly stains and rings inside of it.
“Use microfiber cloths to wipe the inside of the glass in a circular motion, then vertically. Next, use a magic eraser with water, using the same method. Lastly, spray glass cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wipe to finish.”
I got the Eraser wet, put a dry towel beneath the stain, and worked at it using the corner of the sponge. As I would have predicted, the red spot totally disappeared — I think the Dawn cut through the oil in the stain, and the Eraser had no problem at all “erasing” the tomato residue. A winning combination!
Magic Eraser is safe for aluminum-steel sheets, as well as glass baking sheets. We like to use it in tandem with Bar Keepers Friend.
