Oil is about versatility and can double up for many jobs that acrylic primer would be used for. Oil-based primer will adhere to almost any surface and is a master at covering up previous paint or dark stains—once the primer is on, the surface below will not show through.

A 'bond coat' primer that's great for hard-to-stick surfaces, it offers excellent adhesion without sanding. Bulls Eye® 1-2-3 also prevents rust formation when applied over clean ferrous metal such as iron and steel.

Once the gloss sheen has been completely sanded off, you are ready to paint. You will need to add at least one coat of undercoat. Use a two-to-three-inch brush to apply and leave to dry as per the manufacturer's instructions. Once dry, check that the undercoat has covered the surface properly.
Extreme Bond Primer is a high quality, waterborne, acrylic bonding primer that promotes adhesion on a wide range of hard to paint surfaces with only a one coat application. Designed for coating hard, slick, glossy non-porous surfaces with minimal surface preparation (not designed for floors).
Zinsser BIN is shellac-based, whereas 123 is water-based. This makes Zinsser Bullseye 123 a lot quicker and easier to apply. It's also better suited for use on bare wood, or to prime plastic and composite before painting. BIN may be harder to apply, but it is by far the better stain block.
The old gloss surfaces will need to be sanded down to remove imperfections and provide a key for the new paint. Once sanded, clean and the undercoat and then topcoat. All of your surfaces then should tie in nicely.
