Though they may get the job done for household glass cleaning, ammonia-based window cleaners are not the best way to clean your windshield. These products can lead to permanent damage to plastic, rubber, and vinyl.
You should also avoid using a household soap, such as dish detergent, to wash the glass, as these products may also cause streaks. Only use an approved auto glass cleaner to wipe down the window.
The absolute best glass cleaner is plain Dawn dish soap. Squirt a bit on a wet towel, and clean the window. Use a second wet towel to get the soap off and a 3rd if needed. Then, just dry it. Glass cleaners are a waste of money and never clean as well as plain dish soap. I have been doing this for 20+ years.
You could safely add a small amount to help reduce smearing and improve freezing temperature, but running straight alcohol will damage paint, rubber seals, pipes, and be a fire hazard.

Can you use vinegar to clean a windshield? Yes, you absolutely can clean the outside or inside of a windshield with vinegar.

There are a number of reasons for wipers to leave water haze across the windscreen during operation (Fig. 1). The exposure to wide variations in temperatures whilst the wipers are parked without being used for long periods of time results in deformation of the wiper rubber (Fig 2).
