In fact, trying to remove paint after it's dried onto the floor could damage it. To protect your wood floor, 3M recommends Scotch® Delicate Surface Painter's Tape.
Scotch® Rough Surface Masking Tape. Or if your wood flooring is very delicate use a gentle adhesive tape such as Scotch® Delicate Surface Masking Tape.
Gorilla tape sticks to smooth, rough and uneven surfaces, including wood, stone, stucco, brick, metal and vinyl.
If you are a wood flooring professional, you probably already know that adhesive tape is very harmful to gym floors. Coaches, athletic directors, and other contractors, however, may not know the dangers that tape pose; namely, the non-drying solvents, or plasticizers, found in tape can damage wood floor finishes.
The rubber-based adhesive sticks tenaciously, but doesn't leave residue behind when it is removed and won't harm most surfaces. All these aspects of gaffer's tape make it perfect for a lot of woodworking activities.
A: If you are looking to use painter's tape on hardwood floors, we would recommend using our Delicate Surface FrogTape. Be sure to the the surface is dry to the touch, and testing in an inconspicuous area before overall use.
Steam cleaning is intended for tile, linoleum, and vinyl floors, and if done on a wooden floor, it may leave the floor looking dull. Avoid it. f) Never use ammonia, alkaline products, or any other abrasive cleaners on your wooden floors. g) Do not drag furniture or heavy objects across your finished wooden surface.
Ram Board's 90-day edge tape is safe to use on factory finished hardwoods and will leave no residue behind if removed within 90 days of application.
Urethane adhesives typically are recommended when gluing down solid tropical hardwood species and solid bamboo, including vertical, horizontal, and strand since they generally are moisture-sensitive. Water-based acrylic and solvent-based adhesives also are available on the market.

For a cleaning solution, you can mix a few drops of dish soap or castile soap with warm water in a bucket. Avoid using harsh detergents that will damage the floor's wood and dull its finish. You should also not use products like vinyl floor cleaner or tile cleaner.
Rug tape for hardwood floors
Instead of using a harmful carpet adhesive, opt for rug gripper tape. For instance, the double-sided washable rug stopper is suitable for hardwood, tile, large carpets, and small area rugs like a doormat.
Bona Polish is NOT a hardwood floor cleaner. It is a cheap thin finish that you apply to your floors. Over time and repeated use the film gets thicker and it scuffs and scratches easily making the floors look unsightly. The only remedy to restore your floors is to strip the Bona Polish off.
Do not wet mop wood flooring. Damp is good. Dripping wet is bad. If you can ring out the mop or pad, you're working with too much water.
The ideal mixture typically involves a mild solution of diluted vinegar with just a few drops of Dawn. This blend ensures that the cleaning power is strong enough to clean the floors without leaving any harmful residues or damaging the wood.

The preferred type of tape for these repairs is Japanese paper tape, or sheets (which are cut or torn to shape). Japanese paper is naturally acid free and is applied using a conservation grade adhesive.
In a word, YES. Using Frog Tape really does make a world of difference in the ease of the painting process. Despite the under the breath grumblings heard by old school painters around the globe, frog tape has “reinvented the wheel” of painter's tape in the best way possible.
To Sum It Up
Don't apply blue, green or even yellow tape directly on finished hardwood.
The 3 tapes used were Scotch-Blue Painters for Delicate Surfaces #2080, Scotch-Blue Painters for Multi-Surfaces #2090, and Scotch General Purpose Masking. Of these 3 choices, only the Scotch-Blue Painters Tape for Delicate Surfaces is recommended by 3M for use on hardwood flooring surfaces.
For more stubborn residue, try using household items like cooking oil or white vinegar. Apply a small amount to a cloth and rub it onto the adhesive. Let it sit for a few minutes to penetrate the residue, then gently scrape it away with a plastic scraper.
