Medex® is the high-performance MDF panel with superior strength and moisture resistance (MR50) that will meet your next project's requirements in humid or high-moisture areas like entryways and kitchens.
Tricoya Waterproof MDF. Tricoya is characterised by its durability, dimensional stability and reliability properties.
Cost Effectiveness: Moisture-resistant MDF is not only durable and easy to use, but it is also an effective and cost-effective panel material. It is often less expensive than solid wood or plywood which makes it a great option for those on a budget.
MDF is more prone to warping, splitting, and cracking, and it is not suitable for use in structural applications. HDF, on the other hand, is much denser and more stable, and it is often used in applications where high strength and durability are required.
There are two methods to waterproof MDF. You can opt for using manufactured Moisture Resistant MDF, which is a little more expensive than standard MDF. Or you can paint your MDF with moisture-resistant wood sealant or varnish.
Exterior NAF MDF Panel
EXTIRA is a exterior grade No Added Urea Formaldehyde MDF precision engineered, high resin, high temperature cured all hardwood fiber composite used for a variety of millwork applications where high moisture causes others wood composite substrates to fail.
However, varnish will be the product with the best water repellent function for MDF.
Moisture resistance: Although not entirely waterproof, HDF has moisture-resistant properties. This makes it ideal for indoor spaces with moderate humidity, like kitchens or bathrooms. That's not to say you can get it wet without causing damage, but you won't have to worry about it absorbing moisture from the air.
Cabinets and shelving: HDF boards can be used to create cabinets and shelving in your home. HDF boards are often used as the core material for kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities due to their resistance to moisture and humidity.
While moisture-resistant boards are more expensive than standard MDF, they offer superior durability and longevity in high-moisture environments. It is important to note that moisture resistant MDF sheets are not completely waterproof and should not be used in direct contact with water.
Your MDF furniture should not be placed directly on wet surfaces, during the rainy season. Separate the furniture from the wet surface with placemats or other protective barriers.
Moisture resistant MDF 18mm is particularly suitable for construction applications that need panels, with high load-bearing capacity and moisture resistance and for a wide range of interior applications.
Moisture Resistant MDF, MRMDF or Moisture Resistant Medium Density Fibreboard, is a durable and versatile material that is specifically designed to withstand moisture and humidity.
Waterproof Green MDF. This green MDF board is waterproof, i.e. approved for use in wet rooms such as bathrooms and for window sills. The board is also marked with the Nordic Ecolabel. Available in multiple thicknesses.
Strength & Durability: HDF is stronger and more durable than MDF due to its higher density and smaller wood fibres. HDF is less prone to chipping, cracking, and warping than MDF, and is better suited for applications where strength and durability are essential.
Different types of MDF like VIR PRO (Interior Grade MDF), VIR PROPLUS (Exterior Grade)MDF, and VIR MAXPRO (HDFWR grade) MDF are also available to choose from so it becomes important to do some prior research before planning to buy it.
It's not just strong in these conditions – it's made for them. Outdoor MDF is durable and less likely to get water damage, making it a trustworthy choice for outside use.
Compared to the standard MDF, moisture-resistant MDF is still easy to sand and mill, takes well to most adhesives, veneers and paints, but is made with a moisture-repellent resin.
Smooth Finish: The denser surface allows for flawless finishes, making HDF a popular choice for high-end cabinetry. Moisture Resistance: While not as moisture-resistant as Plywood, HDF can handle moderate exposure to water, especially when sealed properly.
Covering MDF with laminate or melamine sheets is another powerful approach to waterproofing. Laminate and melamine are noticeably waterproof and guard the MDF from moisture. They are available in a whole lot of colourings and patterns, making them versatile and customizable.
MDF is not waterproof, but it is moisture-resistant if it is properly sealed. Plywood is moisture-resistant, but it is not waterproof.
While you will now technically be able to use water-based paint, it is probably best to avoid the risks of damage and opt for oil, acrylic, or latex-based paint. You should sand and dust between coats, ensuring a smooth surface and a clean look. MDF will almost always be painted or otherwise covered during use.
