Wasabi. Popularly known as one of the hardest plants to grow in the world, wasabi is prone to diseases when planted on a large scale.
Welwitschia is one of the world's strangest and most resilient plants, living in the exceptionally dry Namib desert, which stretches along the coasts of Angola, Namibia and South Africa.
Adapted to the desert environment, Selaginella lepidophylla can survive without water for several years, drying up until it retains only 3% of its mass. The plant can live and reproduce in arid regions for long periods of time.
Hosta 'Invincible' is another of the Paul Aden breeding hosta breakthroughs. The very thick but glossy green foliage makes a unique 40" wide clump so exquisite it almost looks edible. The clump is topped with thick flower stalks ending in equally exquisite, very fragrant, light lavender flowers on 15" scapes...
Hens-and-chicks (Sempervivum sp.) is also sometimes called a live forever plant. Both this plant and the fall flowering sedum are members of the Crassulaceae plant family, a group of plants well adapted to drought prone regions.
The record holders are bristlecone pines of the western United States, quite a few of which are known to be more than 3,000 years old.
In Afrikaans, the plant is named “tweeblaarkanniedood,” which means “two leaves that cannot die.” The naming is apt: Welwitschia grows only two leaves — and continuously — in a lifetime that can last millenniums.
Agave Americana Blooms Once Every Hundred Years
It's also known as a century plant because it only blooms once every 100 years (roughly) and then dies. But, because Raleigh gets more rain than the plant's usual home in the high elevations of Northern Mexico, the Century Plant is blooming after only thirty years.

Pothos, also sometimes called devil's ivy, golden pothos, or hunter's rove, is one of the most popular house plants in North America. The scientific name is either Epipremnum pinnatum cv. 'Aureum' or E. aureum.
Proboscidea is a genus of flowering plant in the family Martyniaceae, some of whose species are known as devil's claw, devil's horn, ram's horn, or unicorn plant. The plants produce long, hooked seed pods.
Epipremnum, better known as Pothos or Devil's Ivy, is a blessing for those who live in a home with limited natural light. This plant is almost impossible to kill and stays green even when kept in the dark.
Plants can live without humans, but humans cannot live without plants. As the earth was formed, first came bacteria, fungi, and other single cell organisms, including algae, followed by plants which emerged and evolved on the planet long before humans and other animals appeared.
