The Answer is a Mullion
When it comes to double doors, the metal bar running vertically between them is called a mullion. This term is commonly used in the door industry, and it refers to a vertical or horizontal element that separates and supports panes of glass, as well as sections of metal or wood.
Mullion. A mullion is a vertical or horizontal divider between sections of the door. This is often used to separate glass panels or other decorative elements within the door. It provides structural support and stability.
A spindle is a length of square rod or bar, made from metal, usually steel, which connects two Door Handles or Door Knobs together on either side of a door. The spindle locates into the square holes found at the back of a set of door handles or door knobs.
In contemporary usage, a vestibule constitutes an area surrounding the exterior door. It acts as an antechamber between the exterior and the interior structure. Mullion for Double Doors
Fixed mullions are an integral part of the frame between two doors. They allow the doors to swing off the mullion if required. This type of mullion actually separates the doors and causes the doors to become single doors within the frame.
Most door installers look for a gap in the middle of double doors between 3mm and 5mm – that's less than ¼ inch. This means the doors will swing correctly and there's no risk of them hitting one another. Any gap between doors bigger than 5mm is too much and will look out of place.
So, What is a Door Lintel? A lintel is a large block that sits horizontally at the top of an opening, between the vertical supports. So, in a doorway, the door lintel will be found sitting above the two vertical supports of the door frame. For a window, the lintel will sit at the top of the window frame.
