Creating the correct recessed light spacing in a room takes careful measuring and some simple math. For accent lighting, a good rule of thumb is to place the recessed lighting fixtures 4 to 6 feet apart. For even lighting throughout the room, divide the height of the ceiling by two.
Therefore, for a 12x12 room requiring approximately 3600 lumens of light, you would need around 6 recessed light fixtures, assuming each fixture provides 600 lumens. Adjust the number if using fixtures with different lumen outputs or if you desire a higher or lower brightness level.

Number of Lights Along the Length: Divide the room's length by the spacing distance. So, 12 feet / 4 feet = 3 lights. Number of Lights Along the Width: Divide the room's width by the spacing distance. So, 14 feet / 4 feet = 3.5 lights.
By dividing the total height of your ceiling in half, you get the amount of space you should leave between each light. For example, recessed lighting spacing for a 16-foot-high ceiling would be 8 feet between each light. This will provide good spacing for the overall illumination of the room.
How Many Amps Do A LED Recessed Lights Draw? It depends on the wattage of your led downlight fixtures. Usually, Each fixture with a 60-watt incandescent or halogen bulb draws about 1/2 amp, so a 15-amp breaker for a standard lighting circuit would be able to handle 30 of them.
The golden rule here is that you want to focus the light where it matters. In your living room, for example, you may want smaller lights to illuminate artwork and bookshelves, a bright reading light for when you curl up with a good book, and pools of soft ambient light to set the mood for watching movies.
The three main light sources for any 3-point lighting setup include a key, a fill, and a back light. These three sources can vary in terms of angle, intensity and even color, but the principle use for each of these three lights always remains the same.
Generally, if you divide the height of your ceiling by two, the answer will be the amount of space required between each downlight. So, if your room is 2.5 metres high, you should position your lights 1.25 metres apart.

Cons of Canless Lights
Canless lights also often have a higher replacement cost. When they stop working, the entire fixture needs to be replaced, rather than just the bulb. This can be timely and costly.

4-inche Recessed Lights
These models are perfect for providing consistent and overall lighting. It's recommended to maintain a distance of 4 to 5 feet between each recessed light. The distance from the wall to the fixture should be approximately 2.5 feet to ensure even light distribution and prevent shadowed areas.
A general rule is to take the height of your ceiling and divide it by two—for an eight-foot-high ceiling, this means you'd need four feet between each light. This is a good calculation for general lighting.
step 3Determine the Recommended Spacing
For general lighting, aim for uniform illumination throughout the room. Use the general guideline of one recessed light for every 4 to 6 square feet. For task lighting, concentrate lights in areas where specific tasks will be performed, such as over countertops or workspaces.
Divide the total circuit capacity by the wattage of each fixture to find out how many fixtures can be installed on the circuit. For a 15-amp circuit: 1,800 watts ÷ 40 watts per fixture = 45 fixtures. For a 20-amp circuit: 2,400 watts ÷ 40 watts per fixture = 60 fixtures.
I would only do 4 lights in 12x12. A fan is doable, but since the lights will be above the blades, you will get shadows that dance across the walls.
In general, we recommend that the light is 3" tall for every foot of space between the floor and ceiling. You can find this number by multiplying the height of your ceiling (in feet) by three. For example, if your ceilings are 10' high, your chandelier should be 30" tall (10 x 3 = 30).
Too many may make the kitchen feel uncomfortably warm and way too bright. Here's a simple way to figure out how many recessed lights are needed based on the size of the kitchen. The recommended spacing between lights is 3 to 4 feet and about 4-6 lights per 100 feet.
