Samsung refrigerators are equipped with filters to purify water or deodorize.
As your water filter begins to wear out, it will become less effective at filtering out the various chemicals, minerals, and microbes that may be present in the water supply. This may soon become apparent to you in the form of changes in the taste and odor of the water coming from your refrigerator.
Our water filters are NSF* certified to remove many contaminants. You should know that herbicides, pesticides, lead, mercury, asbestos, and even pharmaceuticals like ibuprofen, carbamazepine and a whole lot of other hard-to-pronounce chemicals are all filtered out by Samsung. So you can rest (and drink easy).
Most Samsung water and ice dispensers will work without an AquaPure water filter installed. The water filter housings are designed as rotary valves that allow the water to bypass the water filter whenever there is no filter or the filter is not in the locked position.
Water filters that have exceeded their lifespan may reduce water pressure low enough that it impacts ice production.
Filter Clogs
You should typically replace your refrigerator's water filter about twice per year. Ignoring this maintenance step can cause problems with your water dispenser as well as your ice maker. If you cannot get ice or water from your fridge, then the filter should be your first suspect.
A Samsung refrigerator not making ice due to water pressure issues may have a clogged filter. Changing the filter can improve pressure and should be done every 6 months to prevent clogs. We recommend that every time you change the filter, you also clean your ice maker as part of regular maintenance.
An unchanged water filter can produce water with a foul odour or a strange taste. A dirty or clogged water filter can also affect the mechanical actions within your refrigerator, such as the Ice dispenser. A refrigerator with a water dispensing function is a significant investment and really should be treated as such.
Always use Samsung brand filters. Filters from other manufacturers, even if they indicate compatibility, may damage your fridge and water filter housing, or break off and leave pieces of the filter inside (like the cap), preventing a new filter from being inserted.
The short answer is not necessarily.
An ice machine will operate without a filter, but will quickly start having problems will scale buildup, especially in a city where the water is considered “hard”.
We recommend that you replace the water filter every six months. The refrigerator's water filter light will let you know when those six months are up and should be reset after changing the filter. Note: Only use Samsung Genuine Filters that are designed to work with your Samsung refrigerator.
The short answer is that fridge water filters do work for some simple needs — mainly those related to chlorine, like unpleasant tastes and odors. However, the list of things a refrigerator filter can't do is far longer. For example, fridge systems won't reduce contaminants like arsenic, pharmaceuticals and fluoride.
The water filter needs to be changed when the Filter Indicator light turns red (see the picture of the control panel below). Usually this happens about every 6 months. 4 Push the filter and then turn it clockwise until it locks.
An expired water filter may no longer effectively remove contaminants, compromising the quality and safety of your drinking water. It can result in poor-tasting water and potentially expose you to harmful substances.
After replacing with a new filter, the filter replacement cycle must be reset again by pressing and holding the alarm button for 3 seconds. Excellent performance and proper replacement cycles are ensured.
With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, you will need to install a new filter to have filtered water. REMINDER: Make sure you flush the system after replacing your water filter.
Yes, many refrigerators are designed to run even if their water filter is not installed. However, running the system after removing the filter is not advised. Drinking unfiltered water can harm your health and make you sick.
Some generic filters may not filter water as effectively as brand-name ones, leading to possible differences in water quality and taste. Additionally, certain generic filters might have a shorter lifespan, necessitating more frequent replacements.
Customers highly value the easy installation, improved taste, and enhanced water quality of the water filter. They appreciate its long-lasting performance and compatibility with Samsung refrigerators. However, some customers express concerns about the filter's cost.
Many refrigerators have built-in water filtration that filters sediment and contaminants from the water going to the dispenser and/or the icemaker. If you do not need or want to use the water filter, a bypass plug must be used in place of the filter.
Yes, you can replace the filter without shutting off the water supply.
The steps to replacing a twist-in filter are as follows: Unplug the refrigerator. This may seem like an obvious step, but you should always turn off the power to any electrical appliance before working on it.
If your Samsung ice maker is not working, check these three common problems first: Water pressure. Mineral deposit build-up. Water filter.
As time passes, minerals and particles accumulate and eventually plug up the water filter. Without proper cleaning, a dirty water filter can clog up with so much debris that water can't get through it. When this happens, your machine can freeze up completely, meaning your ice machine won't be able to produce ice.
We recommend replacing the water filter every six months for optimal performance. The built-in water filter light on your refrigerator serves as a convenient reminder for this replacement schedule and should be reset each time you install a new filter.
