The indicator is a porous filter paper impregnated with a chemical salt that is sensitive to moisture. The salt changes color according to the moisture content (relative saturation) in the refrigerant. A dark green color indicates the refrigerant is DRY and yellow indicates a WET condition.
These indicators are essential for monitoring and controlling moisture levels throughout various parts of the HVAC&R system. The Dry All Moisture & Liquid Indicator is particularly important as it provides technicians with a clear view to inspect the refrigerant visually.
THE PROPER WAY TO REMOVE MOISTURE FROM A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM IS TO ``SWEEP'' THE SYSTEM WITH NITROGEN. THIS GAS WILL PICK-UP MOISTURE AND ALLOW IT TO BE REMOVED. EVACUATE ALL FREON AND PUT SYSTEM IN A VACUUM. INTRODUCE NITROGEN INTO THE SYSTEM, LET SYSTEM EQUALIZE AT APPROX 100 PSI.
When moisture sneaks in, it mixes with refrigerant and forms a corrosive acid. This acid can wear away at your system's inner parts, leading to leaks or complete failure. That's not all, though. Moisture also freezes into ice within the system.

Excess moisture in the inside of a home can cause paint in the walls to start peeling off, in this case, paint in the wall of a bathroom.
Most of MCC high capacity receiver driers are equipped with a moisture indicator that turns colour from blue to beige. It takes the guesswork out of determining moisture content in the system. Beige means replace receiver drier and refrigeration oil by draining compressor. Then recharge the system.
Humidity baseline for your refrigerator:
Humidity will always be lower at colder temperatures because warmer air retains more moisture. Refrigerator temperatures will shift throughout the day and are impacted by the surrounding climate. Ideally, refrigerator humidity will stay at levels between 30% and 50%.
To remove moisture from refrigerants in a system, we use a filter drier.
Moisture will cause acid to form in the system causing serious damage to the compressor and expansion valve parts. It also deteriorates the insulation of the motor windings in the compressor.
Keep your fridge in a cool room (make sure the temperature doesn't get over 30°C) and keep your fridge door closed as much as possible. Put fruit, veg and salad in the crisper drawers and leftovers in sealed tubs. This will stop moisture escaping from food and causing condensation.
Vacuum Cleaning
As air is pulled out of the system, the pressure in the system drops below the air pressure outside. In other words, a vacuum has less than atmospheric pressure. A vacuum pump removes air and moisture from the system before the system is damaged.
R-410A must be charged as a liquid. Refer to the instructions printed on your refrigerant cylinder to verify that the cylinder is oriented properly for charging. Charging as a gas may result in refrigerant separation and improper unit operation. System must be charged slowly.
Indicates cooling system moisture, subcooling, and refrigerant volume shortage. Compatible with different refrigerants, including CFC, HCFC and HFC.
Anything above 17% indicates a potential issue and should be investigated. High readings may result from: Penetrating damp due to poor external maintenance. Rising damp caused by a faulty damp-proof course. Condensation build-up in poorly ventilated areas.
a bubbling sight glass indicates either that there is not only liquid refrigerant at this point in the liquid line or that there is a lack of refrigerant. Both variants are not really good for the system and should therefore at least be recognised.
The triple vacuum method is mainly used on larger equipment and is the preferred way to remove moisture from the system. After achieving a vacuum of approximately 10Torr, use OFN (Oxygen Free Nitrogen) as a drying agent, to absorb all the moisture out of the air.
Receiver/Dryer or Accumulator
The receiver/dryer works to separate gas from liquid. The compressor can be ruined if any liquid gets in. That's because a compressor isn't designed for liquids, just gasses. This part also takes out moisture using a desiccant.

If excess moisture is found, the humidity of the room should also be considered. An acceptable level of indoor humidity is generally 30 to 50%, which prevents the growth of microorganisms, such as mold. Excess moisture promotes mold, mildew, fungi, bacterial growth, and possibly viruses.
Moisture in the refrigeration system can lead to blockages in the metering device by freezing, causing reduced cooling efficiency, system pressure fluctuations, and potential damage.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that your refrigerator temperature should be at or below 40°F, and your freezer temperature at or below 0°F. However, the ideal refrigerator temperature is actually lower. Aim to stay between 35° and 38°F (or 1.7 to 3.3°C).
Recognising Dry Mode on Your Air Conditioner
To identify whether your unit has this function, check your remote control: A water droplet symbol or the word “Dry” typically indicates dry mode. A snowflake symbol represents cool mode. A fan symbol usually refers to fan mode.
