Explanation: Propagation by cuttings is the most convenient and cheapest method and usually preferred when possible. Air-layering is a variation of propagation by stem cuttings in which root formation is initiated before the plant part is separated from the mother tree.
Propagating by saving and sowing seed
Growing plants from seed is one of the cheapest and most effective ways of propagating plants.
Ask friends, neighbours, family or work colleagues (particularly those who are keen gardeners) for any plant cuttings, extra plants they don't need or seeds. This is one of the easiest ways to grow your garden for free. Someone else's green 'waste' is a treasure trove of goodies for gardeners on a budget.

Many states ban the growth of yellow iris plants completely because of their high invasiveness. Others only ban their release in public spaces. Play it safe and avoid them entirely.
Plant the Cutting in the Soil
Carefully plant the cutting in the hole you made in the potting mix, and gently tamp the soil around it. You can fit several cuttings into one container, but space them so the leaves do not touch one another.
Marcotting - also known as air layering - is the process where the branch of a carefully selected successful 'mother' tree grows an independent root system whilst still attached to the tree. It is a process that essentially produces a clone of the 'mother' tree so it will therefore have the same qualities.
You'll want to snip off a couple inches of healthy stem right before a node and include a node or two with the cutting, as this is where the new roots will come from.
Plants are always losing water from their leaves, so cuttings (which don't have roots to draw in water), are especially prone to drying out. When taking cuttings, ensure you have a plastic sandwich bag containing a little water with you, to place your cuttings into.
The best water to use for houseplant propagation is clean, distilled, or filtered water. Tap water can contain high levels of minerals, chlorine, and other chemicals that can harm or hinder the growth of the cutting or the new plant.
Vegetative propagation is an asexual mode of reproduction that is fastest and primitive(old). This type of reproduction is cheap and easy to induce.
Marcotting gives a strike rate of at least 80 percent, whereas grafting is more variable. The use of rootstocks for manipulating tree size, production and fruit quality is not well developed.
Budding, or bud grafting, is a form of vegetative or clonal plant propagation by which an exact replica of the parent plant is produced. There are two slightly different methods of budding – chip budding and T budding. The difference between the two is procedure timing and the amount of wood taken with the bud.
Girdling, also called ring-barking, is the circumferential removal or injury of the bark (consisting of cork cambium or "phellogen", phloem, cambium and sometimes also the xylem) of a branch or trunk of a woody plant.
It's important to keep the soil moist to encourage initial healthy root growth.
Clean, coarse construction-grade sand may be used for rooting cuttings. Avoid very fine sand because it has poor aeration, which hampers root formation. A mixture of half sand and half peat moss is a better rooting medium. Vermiculite, a lightweight expanded mica product, is suitable for rooting cuttings.
States where gardening is illegal
Florida: In this state, homeowners associations can ban gardens in front yards, citing aesthetic reasons. Oklahoma: In some cities, homeowners are required to have a minimum amount of grass in their front yard, making it difficult to have a vegetable garden.

Wild sugarcane is a little less exciting than peyote. Rather than having psychedelic properties, it is unfortunately just deemed invasive. It grows to a staggering nine feet tall and has ruthless root networks. This renders precious habitats unsurvivable for native plants when wild sugarcane is present.
