The standard height for a kitchen or dining room table stands between 28 and 30 inches. What is counter height? For an indoor bar, you'll want a higher grade of plywood to make your bar look sleek and beautiful.
We recommend using either 3/4″ particle board, or 3/4″ furniture grade plywood. Particle board is stable, smooth and economical.
For a brushed-on finish, oil-based polyurethane is best. It is significantly more durable than water-based polyurethane for bar tops and restaurant tables because alcohol spills and the chemicals used for cleaning will soften water-based polyurethane over time.
Epoxy coating is the best way to protect your bar top against spills, stains, and scratches and increase its lifespan. The hard, non-porous surface of the epoxy coating can also prevent your bar top from absorbing moisture and harboring bacteria.

Cedar wood projects normally last more than 20 years sans any rot, split or warp. Among other water resistant wood types are White oak and teak. These are also long lasting woods resistant to warping, decay, cracking, or twisting.
Naturally resistant woods that are commercially available include black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), teak (Tectona grandis), ipe (Tabebuia spp.), California redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and bald cypress (Taxodium distichum). These have the highest resistance to rot over time.
