Make up a spray bottle of half white vinegar and half water, and use it regularly as you would a general bathroom cleaning spray on tiles, basins, baths, showers and taps to keep limescale at bay. Always rinse thoroughly with plain water afterwards.
The best way to get rid of stubborn limescale deposits is by soaking the affected area in lemon juice or white vinegar. Some fixtures may be harder to clean than others, so we've put together a step-by-step guide to help you achieve scale-free taps, showerheads and plugholes.
Vinegar and baking soda
Guide the brush around to ensure the toilet limescale is covered and let the solution sit for another 25 minutes before finally flushing. This should do a great job at cleaning the bowl and remove all the limescale from your toilet.
To make a DIY limescale remover using white vinegar, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the affected areas and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before wiping away with a clean cloth or sponge.

The experts said: "Fill a bottle with equal parts white vinegar and water, spraying the vinegar solution directly onto the areas affected by limescale in the shower. Let the solution sit for about 10 to 15 minutes to allow the vinegar to break down the limescale."
Place the shower head in the container and leave it to soak for 20-30 minutes. Lemon will be stronger and require less time than vinegar. Vinegar may need multiple 30-minute stints of soaking. Remove the shower head and rinse it in water, brushing off any leftover limescale.
Use as a descaler
Limescale can be easily dissolved using a mild acid solution, such as diluted white vinegar. For example, when descaling a kettle, simply fill the kettle with equal parts vinegar and water and leave for an hour before boiling and then letting stand for another 20 minutes.
Baking powder for limescale
Baking soda is also an insider tip for removing limescale in the bathroom. Mix two or three teaspoons of baking soda with water to make a soft paste, rub it onto the spots and let it take effect. A few hours later you can easily and carefully scrub off the limescale.

But common pantry essentials that are often used for cleaning — like baking soda and vinegar — shouldn't be mixed either. Unlike the bleach-ammonia mixture, combining soda and vinegar won't hurt anyone — but don't expect the mixture to do a good job cleaning, either.
Vinegar, for example, is a natural limescale remover that contains acetic acid, which can dissolve most mineral deposits, including limescale, grease, and grime build-up.
If you're looking for a natural way to remove limescale, lemon is your new best friend. High in acidity, it has the added bonus of making your bathroom smell lovely. For stubborn limescale stains, you may want to use vinegar, as it has a higher acid content than lemon juice.
