Floors Not Suitable to Lay Over Underfloor Heating

If you're looking for the most energy-efficient flooring, your best option is to invest in a good old fashioned carpet. Carpet fibres are natural insulators, meaning that they conserve heat very well, and as was in the case with LVTs, air can become trapped within the fibres, making them a great insulators, too.
Vinyl, linoleum and laminate flooring work well with underfloor heating, both heating types; water and electric underfloor heating are compatible with vinyl flooring. Much like wood underfloor heating, it is highly recommended not to expose your vinyl or laminate underfloor heating to temperatures higher than 27°C.
Electric radiant heating can be expensive to operate, depending on local electricity rates. Hydronic systems are expensive to install. Radiant heat is difficult to retrofit and may require major renovations.
What's the best type of cut for radiant heat? Quartersawn or riftsawn wood planks will be more stable than plainsawn wood flooring. Plainsawn floorboards expand from side to side when exposed to changes in relative humidity, increasing the likelihood of gaps and cupping.
