Please note that these ADAAG reach range requirements fall with the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) guidelines. The NFPA guidelines state that the distance from the floor to the top of the fire extinguisher to be no more than 5 feet.
should be mounted with their carrying handles no higher than 5 feet from the floor. Larger fire extinguishers (over 40 lbs. gross weight) need to be mounted at lower heights, with their carrying handles no more than 3-1/2 feet from the floor.
Most electricians install light switches 48 inches from the floor. ADA guidelines set the maximum height at 48 inches, although 40 inches is preferred to accommodate wheelchair users. Outlets are typically installed 15 inches from the floor.
In addition to having a maximum height of 36 inches, all accessible sales and service counters must have a clear floor space in front of the accessible surface that permits a customer using a wheelchair to pull alongside. This space is at least 30 inches by 48 inches and may be parallel or perpendicular to the counter.
4 Height of Tables or Counters. The tops of accessible tables and counters shall be from 28 in to 34 in (710 mm to 865 mm) above the finish floor or ground. ANSI 902.3 Height. The tops of dining surfaces and work surfaces shall be 28 inches (710 mm) minimum and 34 inches (865 mm) maximum in height above the floor.
RANGES. Ranges require a maximum height of 34" above the ground. The location of the controls must not require reaching across burners.
Both sources stipulate that socket outlets, switches and controls should be installed at a height between 450mm and 1200mm above the finished floor level. generally, this means it is a minimum of 450mm to the underside of an outlet and a maximum of 1200mm to the top of a switch or a control.
A sink should be mounted at a maximum 34” above the floor to the top rim with clear floor space underneath to allow for a forward approach. It is important to provide a knee clearance of 27” in height to the sink underside for at least an 8” depth.
NEC Section 240.24(A), with a few exceptions, requires that circuit breakers and switches containing fuses be readily accessible and located so that the center of the grip of the operating handle in its highest position is no more than 2.0 m (6 ft 7 in.)
Installation Height
No extinguisher should be mounted higher than 1200mm (120cm) off the floor. The bottom of the extinguisher should be no less than 100mm (10cm) from the floor.
A fire extinguisher, rated not less than 10B, shall be provided within 50 feet of wherever more than 5 gallons of flammable or combustible liquids or 5 pounds of flammable gas are being used on the jobsite. This requirement does not apply to the integral fuel tanks of motor vehicles.
The sign must be mounted such that it is no less than 2 metres from the floor level or at a height that makes it the most apparent to a person of average height and visual acuity.
To prevent fire extinguishers from being moved or damaged, they should be mounted on brackets or in wall cabinets with the carrying handle placed 3-1/2 to 5 feet above the floor. Larger fire extinguishers need to be mounted at lower heights with the carrying handle about 3 feet from the floor.
Mounting Height: The operable parts of a fire extinguisher (e.g., the handle or lever) must be mounted at a height that is accessible to people with disabilities. Specifically, the highest operable part of the fire extinguisher should be no more than 48 inches (1220 mm) above the floor for unobstructed reach.
3.9 Installation Height. 6.1. 3.9. 1 Fire extinguishers having a gross weight not exceeding 40 lb (18.14 kg) shall be installed so that the top of the fire extinguisher is not more than 5 ft (1.53 m) above the floor.
Rough-In Dimensions for Bathroom Sinks
The standard rough-in height for residential bathroom sinks is 31 inches from the floor to the rim of the sink. Bathroom sinks in compliance with ADA requirements measure 34 inches from the floor to the rim.
The front of the sink shall be 34 inches (865 mm) maximum above the floor, measured to the higher of the rim or counter surface.
An ADA compliant sales or service counter must have a portion that is 28"-36" inches high, measured from the finish floor to the sales counter top. This portion of the counter must also be at least 36" inches long for a parallel approach or a 30" length for a forward approach.
Outlet Height
The standard height for wall outlet boxes is about 12 inches from the top of the floor covering to the bottom of the receptacle box (or 16 inches to the top of the box).
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) details accessibility requirements for public or commercial locations. Based on ADA guidelines, each switch in these locations should be between 15 and 48 inches from the floor if there are no obstructions in front of the switch.
