Whirlpool and Bosch both have reputations for needing fewer repairs than their competitors. According to Bosch, fewer than 10% of Bosch dishwashers sold in the last five years required service during that time. KitchenAid also has a strong brand reputation and its dishwashers are known for their cleaning performance.
Samsung is the most repair-prone brand of dishwasher. Bosch is among the more reliable brands of dishwashers. GE and Frigi- daire are more repair-prone than Bosch, Whirlpool and Miele. Due to estimated failure rates, Samsung cannot be recommend- ed by Consumer Reports at this time.
But the best dishwashers can handle the tough jobs and are also quiet, reliable, and easy to load. After digging through thousands of customer reviews and stress-testing 17 models with seriously crusty dishes, we've concluded that the Bosch 300 Series is the first one you should consider.
Many people say that the brand of dishwasher does not matter, however there are certain brands which do tend to go on for longer than others. Some of these include Miele and Bosch. These tend to be built better than other dishwashers and so they last longer.
Bosch. Up four places and tied for the sixth spot with a total of 68 points is Bosch. While the brand received a very good rating for gas ranges, it wowed shoppers who purchased dishwashers and cooktops, earning it an excellent rating in those categories. The rest of the scores were good across the board.
Frigidaire
Frigidaire is currently the most unreliable dishwasher brand on the market, according to Consumer Reports and Puls (a nationwide network of appliance repair technicians).
It's a wonderful convenience, especially if you entertain frequently or have a big family. However, dishwashers don't last forever. The life expectancy of a dishwasher is about 10 years, according to manufacturers surveyed by Consumer Reports.
In 2020, we tested 17 current models—at least one from every major brand—and the Bosch models were the best at cleaning the toughest stains. They're as quiet, spacious, and fast as any dishwasher you can get for less than $1,000. And they seem to be more reliable than other brands, too.
What are the top three rated dishwashers? According to our research of dozens of dishwashers across a variety of brands, our top rated dishwashers are the LG 24 in. LDF454HT, the Samsung 24-inch Top Control DW80R9950US, and the Bosch 300 Series.

GE is owned by Haier. Ikea dishwashers are made by Whirlpool and are priced in the lower range. Kenmore is sold at Sears and has three lines: Kenmore, Kenmore Elite, and Kenmore Pro.
Due to the pandemic, Bosch dishwasher production is operating below normal (for social distancing on the line within the factory). It's on backorder everywhere, and wouldn't you know our dishwasher just leaked water on our floor! (Fortunately, it alarmed and we were nearby to grab towels.)
Stainless steel withstands heat better than plastic. Inside a dishwasher, the water temperature can reach up to 160 degrees Fahrenheit, which kills bacteria more efficiently and gives your pots, pans, dishes, glasses and, especially, your baby bottles, a better, more sanitary clean.
The differences between the two brands are in style, reliability, price, and washing and drying performance. Bosch offers a superior selection with more than 100 dishwashers covering a variety of features, visual designs, and price points.
What Happens If You Don't Use The Dishwasher? If you don't use your dishwasher for prolonged periods, expect motor issues, problems with your pipes, and even a broken machine. Your dishwasher's motor seals will often dry out first, leading to bigger issues with its ability to run or even pump water.
That means that of the 20 brands in our ratings, new dishwashers from Bosch, Thermador, and Whirlpool are the least likely to break within the first five years.
Who makes Whirlpool? Michigan-based Whirlpool Corporation owns Whirlpool. The company also owns KitchenAid, Maytag, JennAir, and Amana, among other household name brands for appliances. When comparing Whirlpool and KitchenAid dishwashers, you'll notice that they share some of the same features.
It's cleaner. Stainless steel can withstand higher temperatures than plastic so you can expect water temperatures of up to 160 degrees during your wash cycle. The higher temperature kills more bacteria and guarantees cleaner dishes.
#1 – Whirlpool
According to Yale Appliance statistics, Whirlpool was determined to be the most reliable household appliance brand. Out of the 6,000+ units that they sold last calendar year, less than 5% of them required repair services down the road. They've also received rave reviews for their customer service.
But my understanding is that Bosch is one of the most reliable brands across the board, and the company is pretty easy to deal with under warranty. I've come to the conclusion that reliability and customer service are actually the most important criteria for appliances, and Bosch gets the thumbs-up in that regard.
However, Bosch maintains a large selection of products ranging from laundry to dishwashers to cooking and ventilation. Therefore, select product lines may be sourced from various Bosch factories around the world. The new Bosch refrigerators are currently coming from Bosch factories in China.
