PTFE hoses – hoses made of smooth or corrugated PTFE tube, with stainless steel or polymer fibre braid, often with a smooth silicone or other elastomer cover. They are resistant to almost all chemicals and relatively high temperatures due to the unique properties of PTFE.
Polyurethane or rubber hoses labeled ``drinking water safe'' are better options. (More about rubber hoses below.) While PVC hose packaging often doesn't indicate what the hose is made out of, polyurethane hose labels often do.
ECTFE (Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene) – Halar®
Halar®, also known as ECTFE or ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene, is the most chemically resistant plastic. It can withstand the harshest chemicals, acids, and solvents, including sulphuric acid, without losing any of its mechanical properties.
HDPE is resistant to strong acids and bases, reducing agents, and gentle oxidants, which makes it ideal for construction environments where materials may come into contact with such chemicals.
PVC is resistant to many alcohols, fats, oils and aromatic free petrol. It is also resistant to most common corroding agents including inorganic acids, alkalis and salts. However, PVC should not be used with esters, ketones, ethers and aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Durability. Polyurethane hose is made of the same material as the wheels on in-line roller skates and is strong enough to withstand potential damages like being pulled across rough or sharp surfaces. The outer cover on the rubber hose is much softer and can tear easily.
Rubber and reinforced hoses are less likely to snag, kink, or break, and they hold up to extreme temperatures. If strength is a concern, check the ply, too. (Ply usually ranges from 1 to 6, with six being the strongest.)
Polyethylene air hose is available in two different types: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). LDPE is the most commonly used type. Both types are resistant to chemical substances. The HDPE has a larger bending radius and can withstand higher pressures.
Polyacrylic has a good chemical resistance which makes it to discoloring from yellow stain when exposed under sunlight, changing weather condition, or by heat.
1. Stainless Steel. Stainless steel alloys are renowned for the corrosion-resistance, ductility, and high strength. Corrosion resistant qualities in stainless steels are directly tied to their chromium and nickel content — more of these elements correlate with increased resistance.
Incorporating additives and crosslinking agents enhances the chemical resistance of coatings. These compounds reinforce the molecular structure. This makes the coating more resilient to chemical attacks.
Buy PTFE hose if you need chemical resistance, high-temperature tolerance, and higher pressure ratings, especially for performance applications. Choose Rubber if you want flexibility, lower costs, and are using your vehicle for everyday driving.
PVC tubing is lightweight, extremely flexible, and has other beneficial qualities including: Chemical resistant.
Ethylene propylene diene monomer, or EPDM, is a type of synthetic rubber that is commonly used across many industries. Developed in the early 1960s, it is made from ethylene, propylene, and diene monomers and is a very versatile and durable type of rubber with many applications.
Vinyl hoses aren't as durable as rubber hoses. A rubber garden hose requires the most upfront investment. They're tougher, more flexible and heavier than vinyl hoses. Overall, rubber hoses are more durable.
Kevlar hoses are made of high temperature resistant aramid fibers having a unique combination of toughness and exceptional thermal stability. These properties offer increased strength and reduced weight for the complete line of reinforced Aeroquip hoses.
The production of polyurethane is a complex, and expansive, process. On the other hand, because of that complex process, polyurethane is a much harder, rigid material that lasts longer than rubber.
If your application requires high performance, reliability, and temperature resistance, silicone hoses are the better choice.
Vinyl and vinyl-reinforced hoses are inexpensive, lightweight and easy to handle. Rubber hoses and hoses reinforced with rubber are heavier and more durable. Reinforced hoses stand up to temperature changes better and are less likely to kink or burst.
LDPE (low density polyethylene), silicone, PTFE, PFA, FEP, and certain types of polyurethane tubing have excellent chemical resistance. It is important to consider the specific chemicals, operating temperatures, and pressures required when selecting flexible tubing for an application.
The molecular structure of nylon, which makes it difficult for chemicals to permeate the fabric, confers chemical resistance. This characteristic makes nylon a good material for applications that are often exposed to chemicals, such as labs and industrial environments.
PVC conduit shall not be used under the conditions specified in 352.12(A) through (E). In any hazardous (classified) location, except as permitted by other articles of this Code. For the support of luminaires or other equipment not described in 352.10(H). Where subject to physical damage unless identified for such use.
