For a gas that is lighter than air you will typically want to locate the sensor on or near the ceiling. For gas types which have a density similar to that of air you would typically have sensors installed 4 - 6 feet from the floor which is often referred to as the breathing zone.
Methane (CH4) gas is lighter than air, mounting height for Methane (CH4) gas detector is 0.2 meter below ceiling.
Methane gas detectors should therefore be placed near the ceiling, leaving a distance of at least 6 inches from the ceiling, while also avoiding dead air spaces, e.g. corners.
Motion sensors usually work best when mounted between 6 and 8 feet off the floor. Ideal height is usually 7 feet. Although, different models might have different requirements — so check the manual of your specific sensor to know for sure.
The breathing zone refers to the area 4 - 6 ft / 1.2 - 1.8 m from the floor, where most human breathing takes place. This is a good default location for sensors, as many gases often disperse well in air. Sensors should be placed near the source of the gas if possible.
Sensors for heavier-than-air gases should generally be positioned 6 inches (15 cm) to 12 inches (30 cm) from the ground, as these gases tend to settle near the floor. For lighter-than-air gases, sensors are best placed near the ceiling or on high surfaces as these gases rise.
Smoke alarms should be mounted on the ceiling at least 4 inches from a wall or on a wall with the top of the alarm not less than 4 inches, or more than 12 inches, below the ceiling. There are certain locations to avoid such as near bathrooms, heating appliances, windows, or close to ceiling fans.
A natural gas alarm should be installed indoors in any room that has a gas-fueled appliance. This can include a stove, furnace, water heater, gas fireplace, or a gas dryer. It should be installed on the wall, within 12 inches from the ceiling.
Carbon monoxide is lighter than air. It also rises with warm air, so the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends placing a carbon monoxide detector on a wall about five feet above the floor or about eye level. You can put them on the ceiling, too.
Place sensors close to the possible gas/leak source. Place sensors in areas where air currents are likely to produce the highest gas concentration, including areas where gas buildup is likely, such as corners or stopping points of gas-releasing moving devices.
Unique to Qube, each device undergoes multiple calibrations, which involve exposing sensors to known methane concentrations under varying environmental conditions to establish a 'calibration curve'. This allows accurate methane concentration measurements within 1 ppm or 1% of reading, whichever is greater (Figure 2).
Should your property be impacted by a natural disaster such as a tornado, earthquake, hurricane or flood, natural gas detectors can alert you and your family to possible issues. In some cases or emergencies, it may be necessary to shut off some utilities.
The ideal TV mounting height should create a comfortable, immersive viewing experience. To achieve this, the center of the TV should be around eye level while viewers are seated or lying down. In many cases, this means a TV mounting height of 40 to 50 inches, measured from the floor to the center of the screen.

2D laser displacement sensors can measure both width and height, allowing for panel gaps to be accurately measured, regardless of the surface finish or colour. 2D Thrubeam sensors allow high-speed dimensional inspections to be taken on the silhouette of a part.
Overall, a motion detector should be mounted on the wall, between 6 and 8 feet high. Some people also put their motion detectors on or near the ceiling. That can work with a standard ceiling height — which is around eight feet — but may not be the best choice for any homeowner who has 10 or 12-foot-tall ceilings.
Home Smoke Detectors
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends installing at least one home smoke detector on every level of your home (including your basement and attic), inside every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area.
Gas-detector sensitivity must be below the lowest PEL or TLV for health hazard gases and/or at or below 10–15% of the lower explosive limit (LEL) level for flammable gases.
We recommend the Kidde Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Detector as the best overall gas leak detector. It detects a wide variety of explosive gases (including propane and natural gas), along with carbon monoxide, and it has two power sources for extra redundancy.
Smoke alarms should be installed at least 10 feet (3 meters) from a cooking appliance to minimize false alarms when cooking. Mount smoke alarms high on walls or ceilings (remember, smoke rises). Wall-mounted alarms should be installed not more than 12 inches away from the ceiling (to the top of the alarm).
The NFPA requires AC-powered, interconnected smoke alarms to be installed inside each bedroom, outside each bedroom area, and on every level of the home. They also require a minimum of two AC-powered, interconnected smoke alarms in any new construction home.
