Due to their lighter nature, you'll usually want less adhesive than you might think for wall tiles to prevent them from protruding too far out from the wall. That's why we'd recommend using no more than 2-3mm of adhesive unless your chosen tiles are particularly big.
The maximum thickness should not exceed 3mm. during drying and crack. thicknesses can weaken the bed and possibly cause tile de-bonding.

However, if you use peel-and-stick tiles for your kitchen backsplash or mudroom floor, vinegar may help clean up any adhesive residue from those types of tiles.
Vegetable or canola oil can work wonders, as can peanut butter or mayonnaise. Spread it on, let it soak into the residue for about an hour, then wipe it away. For a tougher clean, try rubbing alcohol or vodka. Let it fully permeate the unwanted residue, then rub away completely with a cloth.
For stubborn floor adhesive, apply hot water to the mess, wait for several minutes, then apply Goo Gone. Before continuing your renovation, make sure the surface is completely dry prior to applying more floor adhesive.
If you let grout or thinset dry out as they are trying to harden, they simply won't harden very well, and then they will be crumbly and not adhere well to surfaces. I don't ever tile with mortar in direct sunlight if I can help it and will rig tarps if needed to minimize the effects of sun and wind.

White vinegar is a safe and natural cleaner, deodorizer, and adhesive remover you can use on many surfaces. Soak a paper towel in vinegar and cover the sticky spot. Let the vinegar soak for a few minutes to dissolve the adhesive, then scrape it off with a credit card.
