It's simple, the water in your pipes needs to go somewhere. If there's significant blockage in your pipes, then the water backs up. It's only a matter of time before that backed up water becomes a problem. Without addressing the problem of a clogged drain, flooding is bound to happen.
Damage to Plumbing Fixtures
In addition to the pipes, leaving Drano in the drain for too long can damage the plumbing fixtures. This includes the sink, shower, bathtub, and other plumbing fixtures connected to the drain. These fixtures can become corroded and discolored and can start to show signs of wear and tear.
If you have an especially slow drain, you can safely let the product sit overnight.
For preventive drain cleaning, you can use Drano® Max Build-Up Remover in drains, toilets and even septic systems. Apply Drano® Max Build-Up Remover overnight or before you go to work, then wait 6 to 8 hours before running warm (not hot) water down treated drains or flushing treated toilets.
It is Extremely Corrosive For Your Drains
When your pipes are clogged, Drano will sit on top of the clog, continually reacting and generating heat until the clog dissolves. This can put a great deal of stress on your drains as the heat can cause PVC pipes to soften and even break or collapse.
Leave to work for at least 1 hour – ideally overnight. Pour hot water down the drain to free any remaining residue.
This can happen for a few reasons. First, the chemicals in drain cleaners can corrode pipes and cause damage over time. This can lead to leaks or even bursting, which can make a clog worse by creating additional blockages. Second, drain cleaners are often only effective on small clogs.
Using a snake is also more invasive and time-consuming than using a chemical cleaner is, and can often become a dirty job. When it comes to getting at and removing major clogs or clogs that are deep down in your pipes, however, a plumber's snake is your best bet.
Although plumbing chemicals like Drano are designed to break up clogs and clear your pipes, they often make a clog worse for homeowners.
Will Drano® products hurt my pipes? NOPE. Drano® will not damage pipes or plumbing. Drano® products are powerful enough to dissolve nasty clogs, but they will not harm your plastic or metal pipes, so there's no need to worry.
How long will this take to clean? The time it takes will depend on how complex your drain is (sometimes you need basic tools to unscrew the drain plug mechanism in a sink or tub) and how stubborn the clog is. But if you end up going through all of the strategies to clear a clog, it can take about an hour.
Plumbers will first place the end of the cable in the opening of the drain. They will use the crank to push the cable through the drain. When they reach the clog, they will maneuver the cable until they break through the clog.
Mix together 1/3 cup of baking soda and 1/3 cup of vinegar. The result will fizz almost immediately—it's important that you pour it down your clogged drain right away so you don't lose the effects of that reaction.
First, remove all stagnant water from the sink. Replace it with hot water until it is halfway full, and it generates a seal around your drain. Place the sink plunger over the drain and start pumping up and down swiftly. Remove the plunger, observe if the water flows, and repeat the procedure until water flows freely.
Drain Snakes Can Damage Pipes
When a drain snake is inserted into a pipe, the end may flop around, scratching the pipe. If the operator isn't completely confident in their ability to control the drain snake, they may apply too much force on the device.
If your snaking session yields plenty of hair and soap scum, but still leaves you with a slow drain, there's a good chance that the P-trap is still obstructed. To clear it, plug the overflow hole with a rag and fill the tub drain with hot water, which will help to soften and loosen soap scum.

Hydrochloric acid, also known as muriatic acid, is a strong acid that is commonly used to dissolve clogs in drains. This acid works by breaking down organic materials such as hair, grease, and soap scum that can accumulate in pipes and cause blockages.
Unfortunately, the pressure from a plunger probably won't break up a shower drain clog. Instead, it will only send the material deeper down the drain pipe completely intact. The clog still exists, but now it's even deeper into your plumbing system, causing your shower to drain slowly or not drain at all.
Can you leave baking soda in the drain overnight? It is safe to leave baking soda (and vinegar) to work overnight to unclog a drain.
It's best if you let it sit for about six hours. I let it sit the entire day while we were at work. The drain now flows with no backup at all. Drain Care works well just remember it's not for clogs but more for maintenance.
Allow product to sit at least 2 hours or preferably overnight. Once water has come down to normal level, flush toilet. Note: For difficult obstructions, repeat treatment and allow product to sit in drain overnight. Then flush with hot tap water for 5 minutes.
