Plants that have lengthy floral displays, evergreen trees that do not shed many leaves, and ground covers are best used around a pool. Avoid using plants that bear fruit, attract bees, have thorns or barbs, or are deciduous, as they drop their leaves.
Lay mulch, such as shredded bark, to prevent grass and weeds from growing in that 3-foot around around the pool. You also can use gravel or rocks, which will minimize the amount of dirt that gets into your pool.

Whether you like raised garden bed ideas or you prefer planting straight into the ground, flower beds can make exceptional dividers for a garden path around a backyard pool. This is especially the case when you bring tall, architectural plants into the mix.
Multiply the "pool radius" by itself. Multiply the result by pi, or 3.14, instructs Math Open Reference. Multiply the result by the "trench depth" measurement. Though this is not the depth of the pool, maintaining consistency is important to accurately determine the amount of gravel you will need.
Aside from fencing, there are more creative and natural ways to create a private swimming pool environment, as well. You could plant boxwood shrubs around your pool or set up a trellis with vines growing through it. If you live in a tropical climate, you can grow a grove of palm trees around your property.
An aboveground pool can have rubber mulch up until its sides, while an inground one can surround the walkways or deck around it. First, get rid of any dirt, sharp objects, weeds, and debris from the area, then make a two-inch pit within your demarcation line.
Do not attempt to install an above-ground pool below ground where all sides of the pool are surrounded by dirt. The weight of the soil when it becomes saturated with water will cause the walls to collapse. Professional excavation is recommended if more than a few inches of slope must be removed for the pool to fit.
Should I put a tarp under my Intex pool? At the bare minimum, yes you should put a tarp underneath your Intex pool. Inflatable pools, Bestway and Summer Ways pools will also benefit from a tarp.
When excavating for a fiberglass pool, the over-dig is typically about 12". Therefore, the deep end of the pool will be backfilled with either 6' of sand or 6' of gravel to fill in this 12" over-dig.
