Designed to minimize wrinkles,
If using a clothes dryer, you can minimize the wrinkles by removing them quickly and folding or hanging as needed, promptly. Your dryer should have a cool-down setting, where the last couple of minutes there is no heat and cools off before the end of the cycle, also minimizing the chance for wrinkles.
Putting moisture in the dryer will in fact contribute to reducing wrinkles by creating hot water vapor. However the highest range of temperature dryers typically get to is a high of 176°. To create actual steam you need a minimum of 212° F.
The Dewrinkle cycle helps save time by minimizing ironing. If the clothes are slightly wrinkled from sitting in the dryer too long, set the timer to DEWRINKLE and the wrinkles will be removed. This cycles provides approximately 10 minutes of heated tumbling.
Don't Overstuff the Dryer
As well as not fully dry items, overstuffing your dryer tends to result in wrinkled clothes. So, don't overload it and don't put in sopping-wet items straight from the washer – these can be heavy and will ultimately have the same effect.
All you need is a handful of ice. By adding some ice cubes to your laundry in the dryer, you generate more stream which knocks the wrinkles right out of the fabric. When you open the dryer at the end of its cycle, you should have ready-to-wear, wrinkle-free clothes.
Wrinkle Shield™ or Wrinkle Guard is a cycle created to help alleviate wrinkles from setting into clothing. If you cannot remove a load immediately, press the Wrinkle Shield™ or Wrinkle Guard option to add 30 to 140 minutes of periodic tumbling to help reduce wrinkling.
If you don't have fabric softener on hand, try this DIY wrinkle spray: Combine 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water in a spray bottle. Apply it to your clothing, and then let it dry. The wrinkles should disappear.
There are 14 cycles in a typical Whirlpool dryer. Cycles are in groups based on the different types of fabrics to be dried. "Heavy Dry" has 6 cycles based on time of tumbling: 70, 60, 50, 40, 30 and 20 minutes of heat, with a choice of temperatures.
The ice cube hack involves tossing a few ice cubes into the dryer to either help prevent wrinkles or remove them. The ice melts with the heat of the dryer, creating steam, which relaxes the fibers of the garment so that wrinkles are released.
Use the Dryer
For items like shirts and pants that are wrinkled all over, slightly dampen a small thing, like a sock or washcloth, and toss your wrinkled clothes into the dryer on high for five to ten minutes. Remove the item as soon as the cycle is over. This method is best for cotton clothing or cotton blends.
They help prevent laundry from clumping together in the dryer by tumbling between layers and separating fabric. This action allows warm air to circulate better which can even help reduce drying time. The movement of the dryer balls against fabrics can also help fight wrinkles, help prevent static and soften clothes.
Not paying attention to the water temperature and spinning cycle: “Washing in too hot a temperature, over-spinning during extraction (especially with newer machines that have high extract G-forces) and leaving clothes in the washer once the cycle is finished will increase wrinkling,” Edelman notes.
Only tumble in small batches for maximum efficiency! If you pop too much in at once, they will still crease. Once the small batches have had a whizz around at low for five minutes, whip the pieces out as soon as the cycle has finished, and fold neatly immediately.
Add Dryer Sheets
Bounce Dryer Sheets are some of the best laundry tools available when it comes to how to keep clothes from wrinkling in the dryer. Infused with fabric softeners, fragrances, and static-fighting agents, simply add a dryer sheet to a wet load of laundry as you're tossing it into your dryer.
Improper sorting of the wash load (for example, loading large, heavy items with lightweight, delicate items). Use of incorrect drying cycles. Leaving clothes in the Dryer after tumbling stops. Too many items in the Dryer.
Permanent press is a cycle that reduces wrinkles in clothes. Steam drying achieves a similar result by using water vapor to tackle wrinkled textiles.
WHAT DOES WRINKLE CONTROL MEAN ON A DRYER? Many Maytag® dryers also feature a Wrinkle Control Cycle that helps reduce wrinkles by using lower temperatures during the drying process. The Wrinkle Control Cycle defaults to adding the Wrinkle Prevent option at the end of the drying cycle.
The WRINKLE SHIELD™ feature periodically tumbles, rearranges, and fluffs the load to help keep wrinkles from forming.
What do dryer sheets actually do? Gain Dryer Sheets do all the things you love like soften clothes, give fabrics a delightful scent, reduce wrinkles, and reduce static so your clothes attract fewer bits of lint.
As for ice cubes down the toilet, The Associated Press printed an article in 2006 about two sisters in Virginia who flushed ice cubes down the toilet to pray for powder. One little girl claimed that if enough kids flushed enough ice cubes, they would go into the ocean, thus making the water cold and snow fall.
