Dark green may well take top prize for the whole color-cabinet trend. Rob Abrahamson, co-founder of COAT Paints, says dark colors are generally trending, but dark green in particular is hot.
Green – Natural and organic; green is said to be the “BIG” color for 2022. Designers are excited about combining warm shades of green, with natural wood elements, such as oak and walnut. Matte Gray – Darker shades of gray will also be a hit.
Wood, white, and gray have long been “safe” options for the kitchen. But blue kitchen cabinet trends have wriggled their way into the hearts of designers everywhere. Blue can be a stand out color that draws attention, or it can be a neutral color that functions as a foundation for other colors to take center stage.
We are leaving bright and white kitchen cabinets back in 2020 and replacing them with dark and moody cabinets for 2021. This trend was destined to happen at some point, and here it is in 2021. Finally, dark and moody kitchens are now a must-have, and we can see why.
As far as natural wood cabinet colors go, light and medium oak will still be trending in 2022 … whether it's your full kitchen or just your kitchen island. Either way looks beautiful! And you can't go wrong with beautiful stained (or painted) dark kitchen cabinets.
Are Oak Cabinets Coming Back in Style 2022:
For 2022, you will probably see a return to oak wood for kitchen cabinets as vintage becomes designer, and homeowners go back to the real wood of time past. Oak has the texture and look of subtle elegance with its neutral color and design versatility.
All-white kitchens and double ovens are on their way out due to their lack of practicality. Smart appliances, unpainted cabinets, and darker colors in kitchen designs are gaining popularity.
Natural materials, like wood and stone, are always in style. Have your contractor install maple, birch, or cherry cabinets. Look for stone options such as granite, limestone, or slate. Your kitchen will be stylish and trendy both now and in the future.
Two tones. Two-tone cabinets — the upper cabinets in one color, the lower cabinets in another — are a big trend for 2021. Adding an eye-catching touch to your kitchen, two-tone cabinets can come in infinite color combinations — including black and white or gray and white.
And perhaps most telling, Pantone, widely recognized as an authority on predicting color trends, has chosen Ultimate Gray (17-5104) as its color of the year for 2021. But some experts believe gray's days are numbered, soon to be replaced by a return to warmer and brighter colors.
Although grays are not too trendy for the conventional or traditional kitchen designs, they still offer unique features, and they hold their own space when it comes to the contemporary kitchen world.
Durability. If you desire the most durable cabinet finish, then stain is the best option. Stained cabinets are easy to touch-up and don't show marks or scuffs as easily as painted cabinets. It's easy to find touch-up tools that closely match your cabinet stain.
Detailed Patterns, Warped or Damaged Cabinets
If your cabinets have detailed patterns or they are warped, chipped, cracked or have other damage to them, then painting your kitchen cabinets is not the way to go – it most definitely won't solve your cabinet problem.
Honey Oak Cabinets
A staple in kitchens of the 1980s and '90s, these golden-toned wood cabinets have fallen out of favor as white and gray cabinets have risen in popularity. If you don't like your light-stained cabinets, but they're in good shape, consider refinishing or painting what's there.
Granite and other natural stone countertop sales are projected to grow into 2025, according to economists. Consumers and homeowners have fallen in love with granite over the last twenty years, and that's not ending anytime soon!
As we've seen in past years, it's possible for oak and natural wood colors to go in-and-out of style. But, if you really like the look, you can and should go for it in your kitchen. Many design experts believe the current trend of natural wood is here to stay.
As far as I'm concerned, while things like herringbone floors, gently curved side splashes, and beadboard walls have never gone “out of style”, there's no denying that these old world-esque additions are hot in the design world right now, and for good reason.

Mix, Don't Match!
When it comes to floors and cabinetry in a kitchen, you might think you have to find materials that are an exact match. However, as interior design experts recommend, the idea is to mix complementing materials, not match them.
Skinny backsplashes are out of style, we are happy to report. A ceramic tile or glass backsplash that stretches from counter to cabinets is much easier to keep clean, and is more likely to catch spills and splatters.
White Cabinets are Still Classic
The general rule still holds that white cabinets aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They are still classic if done correctly, but I am noticing some push back on the whole “white on white on white” look that I see very often.
