Rustic walnut simply has a more natural look. The natural wood characteristics of walnut such as knots and pits are included in the finished product while still ensuring that these details do not compromise the structural integrity of the piece.
Walnut is a darker wood with shades that range from pale browns to dark browns.
Walnut wood offers rich, brown colors that range from light to dark brown. The sapwood (outer part of the tree log) is pale yellow to white and the heartwood (center of the tree log) has brown shades that vary from light brown to dark chocolate brown with some dark brown streaks.
Walnut brown is a dark brown color; a representation of the color made from walnut hulls. At a hue of 30, it is classified as an orange-brown.

Walnut Color Heartwood
Other types of walnut heartwood include pale brown and dark chocolate brown with even darker brown streaks in it, with a reddish or grey tone. What is this? Walnut sapwood, which is the living, outer part of a walnut trunk or branches, ranges from bright white to a creamy, yellowish, grey.
White walnut has a much lighter color than black walnut wood, but that's not the only difference: This wood is much softer, and it's not as durable against decay as the other types of black walnut wood. It's easy to work with, but because it's soft, it has a fuzzy surface, even after it's been sanded.

The English walnut is the most common variety of cultivated walnut, favoured all over the world for its large nut, relatively thin shell and mild, sweet flavour.
Unlike cherry, maple, and oak (which all darken in color as they age), walnut wood will actually lighten slightly over time.

The paint firm PPG also chose a deep brown stain as its 2023 Stain Color of the Year: Chestnut Brown. The rich brown tones may be part of the resurgence of 1970s design styles.
Walnut has soft purple undertones that work with warm and cool-toned wood alike. Feel free to mix dark and light woods of varying finishes and grain sizes so long as the undertones are consistent.
From their shells to their taste, pecans and walnuts are anything but interchangeable. Side by side, walnuts are typically a much lighter color, with more irregular edges, and a relatively soft shell. Pecans, on the other hand, are darker, have a more oval-like shape, and have an exceptionally hard shell.
