Faux-wood blinds. What blinds do not break under any but the most acute of pressures? Faux wood blinds. Faux wood blinds are, in my opinion, the most hardwearing type of blinds of all, and the blinds most well-rounded in terms of being able to handle multiple different types of challenges.
Functionally, Roman blinds are very robust and durable, and as the top-end blind in any seller's range, actually designed to last for longer than most other types of blinds with appropriate care!
Best blinds for kitchens
Kitchens can get pretty steamy and humid so it's best to avoid wooden blinds as they become disfigured and crack when exposed to moisture. Aluminium venetian blinds, or polyester roller blinds, are normally the best choice as they can be easily cleaned without having to be taken down.
Whether wood, faux wood, fabric, or aluminum, put enough stress on the slats and they'll eventually break. Or bend. Or warp. Whatever the damage, the good news is you don't necessarily need a whole new blind.
Even better durability
Because faux wood blinds are manufactured using composite materials, including vinyl and PVC, these blinds can hold up to extended periods of wear and tear without bending, breaking, cracking, or warping.
The big difference is that unlike wood blinds, faux wood blinds are moisture resistant; hence they don't warp or fade on being exposed to humidity, making them ideal for high humidity areas like bathrooms, kitchens, washrooms, and laundry rooms.
Not only do faux wood blinds keep out the heat, but they can also keep the cold out.
The blind won't stay up when locked in place. This is usually caused by a failed cord lock or crushed cord. To determine if the problem lies with the lock or the cord, do this: Try to raise your blind up just a few inches and lock it in place. If it locks, the problem lies with the cord.
If you wish to RAISE the blinds, move the bottom of the strings along the wall away from the window first (6-12 inches should work) and a ratchet mechansism will work keeping the blinds up as the they are pulled.
If one or more of the lift strings becomes frayed or breaks, you can remove the broken strings and restring broken blinds strings so your blinds can work like new.
Vertical blinds offer great control for light and privacy. By drawing back the blinds you can let in maximum light, bringing the outdoors in. However, you can easily balance the need for light and privacy by angling the louvres. As well as being ideal for windows, vertical blinds also work well for bi-fold doors.
Measure both the width of the window and the height of the window. Consider adding an extra 3 inches to the width and height for optimum light control and privacy. Extending the blinds outside the window will also provide the space needed for the mounts and help the window appear larger than it actually is.
Zebra Shades are a very modern alternative to a horizontal blind. Zebra Shades are Roller shades that allow you to transition between sheer and privacy. The blinds can be adjusted so that the 3" zebra stripes line up-offering privacy, light control, and insulation.
Your blinds will start to deteriorate slightly and discolour after 5 years. We recommend changing your blinds roughly every 6-8 years. If you can't remember the last time you changed your blinds, it's probably time for a refresh!
The direction — up or down — to close blind slats is a matter of personal preference, but if you want more privacy, tilt them up, with the rounded side facing out. With window blinds tilted up, passers-by can't see in: The convex side faces the window, creating less space through which to view.
If you want to know how to lower cordless blinds, all you need to do is pull down on the bottom rail of the blinds. Conversely, to raise cordless blinds, simply place your hand under the bottom rail and gently raise it up.
opening venetian blinds
To raise your venetian blinds, open the slats and then pull the cord away from the centre of the blinds. Once you have raised the blinds to the level that you want, release the cord carefully and slowly. When you release the cord, the blinds will automatically click into place.
Yes, faux wood blinds insulate very effectively in both directions, be that preventing the internal heat from escaping in winter, or preventing it from breaking in during the summer!
While faux wood blinds can warp due to exposure to high levels of direct heat in certain specific and predictable scenarios that I'll get to in a minute, it is not a common problem; nor one that is simply an odds game or something that can potentially happen to any blind hung anywhere if you're just unlucky.
Unlike roller blinds, vertical blinds and roman blinds, faux wood venetian blinds don't provide blackout room darkening. But they will block 90-95% of the light, depending on their slat width. Most faux wood venetians feature a wider slat size, which blocks more light than a thinner slat size.
