How to Measure for Shades and Blinds. If you've ever wondered what the standard size of window blinds is, the standard window length ranges from 36 to 72 inches, and the standard width ranges from 24 to 60 inches.
The most common blind slat sizes are 2 inch slat blinds and 3 inch slat blinds. Wider slats mean that there's lesser space in-between each slat, giving your blinds a denser look. Meanwhile, thinner slats produce the opposite effect.
The blinds you receive will be the full width that you provide, so you need to make sure that your measurements are exactly what you want. We recommend overlapping the wall by at least 35mm on each side of your window frame to ensure that your window is fully covered by your blinds.
Medium sized windows are the most common and generally default to the most common slat size, which is 2”.
The most common slat size (slat = the individual blind piece) is 2 inches - which fits the majority of windows. But if you have a small window, you will want to go with the smaller slat options so the blinds don't seen disproportionate to the frame.
Bigger blind slats will create a modern look while smaller blind slats will give you a more traditional style.
“The industry standard is to take a ¼- to ⅜-inch deduction off of the narrowest width measurement provided and use that as the finished blind width,” says Weidenbaum.
Width is typically the most important figure. Generally, inside-mounted blinds should be about 1/4- to 3/8-inch smaller than your narrowest width measurement. Length is a bit different. If you don't want your blinds to rest on your window sill, make sure they're ¼-inch smaller than the length of the window frame.

A typical window blind is made up of several long horizontal or vertical slats of various types of hard material, including wood, plastic or metal which are held together by cords that run through the blind slats. Vertical blinds run along a track system which can tilt open and closed and move side-to-side.
The most popular, Venetian blinds are horizontal slats made of metal, wood or plastic that you can tilt up to 180 degrees to allow for more or less light, as needed. Modern types are also cordless, which are generally preferable for families with pets and/or young children. (Cordless means tangle-free.
Some of the most popular options include roller blinds, Roman blinds, and Venetian blinds. Roller blinds are a great choice for rooms that receive a lot of sunlight, as they can be easily pulled down to block out the light. Roman blinds are a beautiful option for any room in the house, as they provide a luxurious look.
Additionally, those bacteria that were kept in the dark were also more closely related to respiratory diseases than those that stayed alive even with exposure to sunlight. So not only are you benefiting from the vitamin D that comes from the sun, but it could also be saving you from respiratory disease as well.
Make your house look occupied
You may be physically away from your home, but you shouldn't advertise this. There are some simple ways to make it look as if someone is at home, including: Keep curtains and blinds open while you're away – closing them gives the impression that no-one is home.
Positioning your blinds downward also increases your overall privacy. The only time that it is recommended that you position your blinds in the up position during the nighttime hours is if you prefer to wake up with the sun.
Not just light, either. Outside mount blinds can significantly reduce noise and drafts since they cover the entire window and create a better seal. This also helps to improve insulation, as the gaps between the wall, window frame, and blinds are much smaller than with inside mounts.
Work Out Your Blind Size
You then need to add a little for overlap: We recommend adding 10cm to the width to allow adequate overhang to block out light. We recommend adding 15-20cm to the height to allow most of the blind to be pulled up above the window to maximise the light.
A: The actual width of the 35" blinds are 34.5" (half inch narrower) to comfortably fit inside a 35" opening. So if your frame is exactly 34.5 inches, I would go with the 35" blinds. But first check that the width is the same through the whole length of the frame.
Allusion blinds are the fastest-growing window shading trend for 2023 because they provide seclusion, light control, and gentle, delicate beauty. More convenient than typical vertical blinds for patio doors and windows, these blinds aren't connected by chains, meaning you can walk through them with ease.
I often choose a color that will work with either the trim or the wall color if the trim is similar. To me, wood blinds are less a statement on their own but a functional part of your house. And since most blinds fit inside the trim, they generally should match or be slightly darker than the trim.
Blinds can be lighter or darker than your walls, but there are a few things to keep in mind before choosing a color. To ensure that everything blends well together, the blinds and walls should be at least one shade lighter or darker than each other, but most importantly, they should also be a similar tone.
