At Lily Ann Cabinets, all our RTA cabinets are made from genuine wood. Our RTA cabinet face frames and doors are made from either Birch or North American Maple. Drawer and box construction features furniture-grade A plywood.
The material that makes up the cabinet can be identified by one or more distinctive features and will help you determine if it is made of solid wood, plywood, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), or another particleboard. Appearance: Melamine cabinets typically have a solid colour or wood grain pattern throughout the entire thickness of the material. In contrast, laminate cabinets can have a wide variety of colours, patterns, and textures, including options that mimic the look of natural wood or stone.
Disadvantages of PVC cabinet board include high construction foundation requirements, fear of cigarette butt burns, and fear of sharp weapons scratches. Their surfaces are also a high-density special structure, imitating a wooden pattern, and they become more astringent and non-slip when exposed to water.
Unlike MDF, which tends to absorb moisture and swell, PVC foam board won't warp or degrade when exposed to water. This makes it a more durable and long-lasting material, especially in areas prone to spills and humidity, such as kitchens. In terms of initial cost, MDF can be more affordable than PVC foam board.

Melamine is a made of a harder plastic which makes it harder to scuff and scrape. It does not expand and contract like natural wood cabinets. It has the appearance of natural wood at a lower cost. Melamine is also heat resistant and is therefore less prone to peeling near hot appliances such as stoves or microwaves.

Susceptibility to Heat and Damage
One notable disadvantage is its susceptibility to heat. When exposed to high temperatures, melamine surfaces can warp or discolor, making them less suitable for areas near stoves or ovens. The potential for chipping is another concern with melamine wood.
Particle board is considered to be the cheapest material possible for kitchen cabinets. Made from waste wood and sawdust, the particle board is lightweight and not very sturdy. Since it can not hold more weight, you must avoid it for weighty cabinets. Use particle board for making the kitchen cabinet shutters.
As we know, Melamine is a low-pressure laminate (LPL) because it is made with a pressure of 300-500 psi (pounds per square inch). Laminate (also called Formica) is a High-pressure laminate (HPL), also called Formica, and is made with over 1400 psi (pounds per square inch).
