It's also not ideal to have the kitchen very close to the front door. As mentioned previously, it's best for the kitchen and stove to be deeper into the home. If you can see the stove and kitchen from the front door, you can hang a feng shui crystal ball halfway between the front door and the stove.
According to Vastu Shastra, the Lord of Fire—Agni—prevails in the southeast direction of the home, which means that the ideal placement of the kitchen is the southeast direction of your home. If for any reason, you are unable to do so, the north-west direction will work.
Mind the Location
A kitchen in the center of the house symbolizes fire attacking the heart of the home, which can bring bad luck and energy into your space. A good feng shui layout favors the kitchen at the back of the home in the south or southwest corner, as well as north or northeast parts.
Open kitchens can be nice, but my opinion is that, ideally, these open kitchen concepts should not contravene the rules set out above. If your open kitchen makes your living room feel like a kitchen as well, then we have a problem.
Kitchens can be placed wherever in the house. There's no set location where a kitchen must be. Kitchens are often set in the back of the house, like the living room, and family decor is often showcased in the front of the house. Privacy is often kept in both the kitchen and the first-floor bathroom.
There should be a single door for a kitchen and never should have two doors in opposite direction. In case you found two doors in a kitchen keep the north or west facing door open. Keep the other door closed.
The U-Shape
Arguably the most versatile layout for any size of kitchen, a U-shaped floor plan surrounds the user on three sides, so it allows for longer countertops and extra storage cabinetry. “If you have enough space, I love a U-shaped kitchen with an island in the center,” says interior designer Tina Rich.
According to the kitchen triangle rule, each side of the triangle should measure no less than four feet and no more than nine feet and, ideally, the perimeter of the triangle should be no less than 13 feet and no more than 26 feet. In other words, not too small and not too large.
Kitchen is NOT Suitable at Front of House
The kitchen is best situated at the back of the house, just as how the bedroom should be at the back of the house. Using the same concept, the kitchen should not be close to the front door. That's because the front door is at the “front” end of the house.
Gas stove
Gas stove signifies fire and should be placed where the Lord of fire dwells. The right placement of the gas stove as per Vastu is in the south-east direction of the kitchen. You should cook facing the east direction to bring positive energies in your home.
Utility rooms should be near the kitchen because it allows for a much better traffic flow between the two major work areas of a home. It can also provide extra storage for the kitchen.
The kitchen is by far the most important room in the house for a buyer. A well-apointed kitchen dramatically increases the value of your home.
A kitchen sink is always under a window, so you don't need to worry about using a cabinet space for a sink, and it's easier to access the plumbing. Windows also lets in natural sunlight, which allows hand-washed dishes to dry quickly and allows you to enjoy a scenic view while working.
The galley kitchen is the most efficient layout for a narrow space. It consists of work spaces on two opposing walls with a single traffic lane between. Placing the range or cooktop on one side of the kitchen and the refrigerator and sink on the opposite wall allows for easy workflow.
The L-shaped kitchen is one of the most popular layouts because it's super functional and can be adapted for almost any sized space. As the name implies, an L-shaped layout features cabinetry and appliances along two adjacent walls, creating an obvious triangle path between work zones.
As mentioned earlier, cabinetry usually tends to be the most expensive part of a kitchen remodel. It can cost up to $15,000 even in a relatively minor remodel with a budget of about $30,000. In an upscale remodel, choosing kitchen cabinets can take up nearly 20 to 40 percent of the entire budget.
180 to 440 square feet is the kitchen size for most new home designs. What is this? 225 square feet is the overall national average kitchen size in the United States. 175 to 200 square feet is the average size of a kitchen and dining area that has been combined.
The Return of the Closed-Off Kitchen
Kitchens open to the family room have long reigned supreme, but the closed-off kitchen — or at least partially closed-off kitchen — is making a comeback. While they may not be relegated to separate rooms, the trend is towards defined zones.
Can you install a powder room with a toilet next to your kitchen? You can install a toilet next to the kitchen, but there are several factors to think about. Space requirements, building codes, and plumbing requirements all play a part. You are allowed a toilet next to your kitchen, but it is not going to be easy.
Kitchen doors should also open outward, because the kitchen is one of the most dangerous rooms in the apartment. It is reasonable to install interior door to the child's room so that it should open inward. If the child closes in the room and there is any unforeseen situation, then breaking the door will be easier.
Most kitchens are placed in the rear of the house. Access to a rear kitchen door allowed for faster disposal of waste and easy ventilation; also, deliveries could be made directly to the kitchen to save labor.
