When flooring is installed, subfloor adhesive is applied below the panels to secure them at the panel-to-joist connection, which minimizes squeaks and prevents uneven flooring.
It will not be an easy task; I would start by removing as many nails as possible (probably ring shank nails, so good luck) then cutting the (plywood?) subfloor on either side of each and every joist, then chiseling or using a multi tool to undercut the remaining strips of plywood and glue at each joist.
I like to screw down subfloor using a stand up cordless auto feed system. While not as fast as nailing off a floor, it is easier on the body and reduces squeaks. For a two person crew, one framer glues and sets sheets while the framer fastening can usually help pack material and fasten sheets.
You have the top layer that is your floor covering (Hardwood, Laminate, Vinyl, Carpet, etc.), next you have the underlayment (usually a thin layer of fiber, foam, rubber), below that you have your subfloor (plywood, OSB, concrete), and lastly you have the joists which are the foundation to your floors.
Subflooring glue is applied to the tops of the joists. The right glue is very important here, it's what keeps your floor from squeaking. Matching up with the chalk line, reaching the center of the joist. You can see on the non tongue and groove side of the plywood, joints are made in the center of the joists.
Apply the subfloor glue in a steady flow to joists or studs, moving in a zigzag pattern to ensure all edges are adequately coated. Apply the subflooring panels. Lower the subflooring panels onto the joists and join surfaces within 15 minutes or the length of time stated if the product instructions, if it is different.
Rather than nails, screws are best to use for subfloors — these fasteners are convenient, easy to remove and capable of providing torque that nails lack. Because of their structure, screws can penetrate plywood more easily and improve the connection, whereas nails can weaken the plywood.

Floor joists – Floor joists are large wood framing members that are positioned on their narrow ends. They are evenly spaced and are connected to the sill plate. A subfloor is attached to these joists, which carry the weight of the loads to the walls.
Wall studs are nailed vertically to the bottom wall plate, and the wall plate itself is nailed (downward) into the subfloor, with nails even extending into the joist. All items except underlayment and floor covering rest under and are nailed to the bottom wall plate.
The floors in your home are made up of several layers, beginning with the joists below, the subfloor and underlayment in the middle, and the actual flooring material at the top. Joists are the first, lowest layer of flooring and support everything above.
Most modern vinyl flooring, such as Happy Feet, comes with an attached underlayment or pad, often with a moisture barrier built-in – unless the pad is cork. If the product you choose doesn't have an attached underlayment, you can almost always install directly over the subfloor without one.
Sheet Layout
Cemintel External Flooring System sheets are fixed directly to the floor joists. Sheets are laid with the long edge parallel to the joists and must align with the centreline of joists. The ends of the sheets must be supported by trimmers and bearers. Sheets may be laid in the direction of the fall.
Also, removing floor glue can improve the appearance of the surface, as the leftover adhesive can create an uneven or discolored appearance. Proper removal also helps to maintain the integrity of the subfloor, as failing to remove all of the adhesives can weaken the surface and compromise its stability over time.
Gather your demolition tools and some elbow grease for the removal process. These include a putty knife, flooring chisel or floor scraper, and long-handled pry bar. You may also want to use a hammer, paint scraper, or other chiseling tools to remove stuck-on adhesives.
The appropriate repair method depends on the severity of the damage: Minor cracks may be fixed with wood glue and reinforcement. More significant damage might require sistering the joist, a process where a new joist is attached to the damaged one.
The primary function of floor joists is to bear a load. They serve as the primary support for upper levels and are responsible for transferring the weight to vertical supports within the foundation. When upper levels are present, floor joists also provide support to the walls.
Joist hangers come in many sizes to support different dimensional sizes of lumber and I-joists. The beam hangers you'll find at home centers typically have a galvanized coating and will work indoors and out.
Screws are often chosen for subfloor installations because their joining strength helps to prevent squeaky floors. Nails are more flexible and will give a little more with hardwood flooring, so they're often the choice for panel installation.
