While Kilz isn't an effective paint against mold, it can help keep it from growing. If you've already had remedied your home for mold, you might want to apply Kilz. It's best to apply this after applying a mold-killing primer. This will help prevent new mold from growing on your home.
Depending on how strong or bold the previous color is, it may be necessary to apply more than one coat of primer. However, it is not necessary to over apply the primer with so many coats. As long as the primer applies uniformly over the previous color, then one or two coats should be sufficient.

Can You Wait Too Long to Paint After Priming? Generally speaking, you should paint within a couple of weeks after priming. Some primers can be left for up to 30 days, but that's pushing it.
KILZ Mold & Mildew Primer prevents mold and mildew growth on the primer film/primer surface. It is important to ensure that the surface is mold and mildew free before the primer and topcoat paint is applied. It is however, not supposed to be applied directly to mold (especially the black or yellowish, wet, slimy type).
To hide imperfections, such as cracks and dents, the Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus Interior/Exterior Water-Based Primer works well. To promote adhesion and durability on surfaces, such as metal or tile, the Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus Primer is an excellent choice.
Hydrogen Peroxide: A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water can effectively kill black mold. Apply the solution to the moldy wood, let it sit for about 10 minutes, then scrub and rinse. Baking Soda: Create a paste using baking soda and water, apply it to the moldy wood, and scrub gently.
Inspect and Sand: After drying, check for drips or rough spots, sanding lightly if necessary.
It's recommended to wait at least 24 hours before adding a coat of paint over your primer. Painting over it soon could cause your paint to adhere to the wall improperly, flaking and peeling.

Flat paint, with its velvety, matte appearance, is the best choice for hiding any wall imperfections due to its lack of shine and reflective properties.
The paint will simply cover the visual presence of the mold, such as the spores and dark spots that it leaves as it grows. The mold will never be eliminated when you throw a coat of paint over it. Instead, it will keep growing and eventually reappear through the paint.

KILZ Mold & Mildew Primer will not kill mold and its instructions say to remove any existing mold, mildew, and other fungal organisms before applying. There is one mold killing primer on the market that does claim to kill mold, but this does not mean it is a valid option for DIY mold remediation.
Some might only be good for 7 – 14 days. For example, oil-based primers tend to be more durable than water-based or latex primers. So you need to check the primer data sheet. That said, it should be ok for a couple of months if it's somewhere interior and it isn't exposed to sunlight or the other elements.
