Although Cutco Cutlery is dishwasher safe, we recommend you carefully hand-wash your products in hot water, using a mild dishwashing liquid. Dry them after washing. Allowing items to soak in the dishwater may cause staining from the mineral content in some water.
It is not recommended to dishwash Cutco knives. While they are made from high-quality materials, washing them in a dishwasher can damage the blades and handles over time. The high heat and harsh detergents can dull the edges and potentially warp the handles.
Although the damage is often not immediately visible, the dishwasher will dull your knives over time. The detergents in the machine attack the blades. They contain salts that contribute to corrosion and thus to wear and tear on the knife blade. As a result, knives will lose their sharpness and no longer look good.
The company has paid millions of dollars in lawsuits alleging deceptive recruiting practices. Cutco does sell products, but they derive a large portion of their sales from new employees, their families, and friends.
With all that being said, Cutco knives are dishwasher safe, but we recommend hand washing for these reasons. Dishwashers can be hard on knives, as the agitation can cause blades to bump up against other items, possibly damaging the sharp edge.
The typical cleaning cycle of a dishwasher will keep the wood damp for too long, while dishwasher detergents will damage or strip finish off the block. Plus, dishwasher jets can't really reach to deep-clean the knife slots. Here's a better way.
Cutco's handles are made from a highly engineered thermo-resin that will not crack, chip or absorb moisture and they are dishwasher safe. The blade of a Cutco Knife is made from high-carbon, stainless steel for sharpness, superior edge retention, beauty and easy care. This material also resists rust and corrosion.

Dishwashers make kitchen cleanup fast and more efficient, but it's important to know which items are best washed by hand. While most everyday dishes are generally safe in the dishwasher, items like wood, certain pots and pans, crystal and china, and knives can be damaged by dishwasher detergent and high heat.
😉 While our knives are designed to be dishwasher safe for convenience, we always recommend handwashing to protect your blades from chips and premature dulling. 🧼 Shop Henckels: https://brnw.ch/21wOSLB.
Dishwasher soap is very corrosive, and will pit the steel on your knives. Also, if the handles are wood, the dishwasher will not do them any favours. Good knives are expensive, so do yourself a favour and save your knives — take the few minutes to wash them by hand, dry them immediately, and store them safely.
You probably don't love to be hot and wet; your knife doesn't either. “The high temperature and moisture of the dishwasher can seriously damage both the steel and the handle,” explains Moses. This is especially true if your blade is carbon steel (more likely to rust) or has a wood handle.
Cutco knives with straight edges (Paring, Chef, Santoku, Boning, etc.) require periodic sharpening to maintain optimum performance. We recommend our Cutco Sharpener, but any sharpening stone, steel or other sharpening device may be used.
A: They're not rusted it's minerals. It happens a lot in areas with hard water, but it's when the water on them air dries and leaves just the mineral on the scissors. Barkeepers friend works well and is also really good for polishing the handles if you have the knives as well!

However, if you're filling the basket to capacity, it's best to point spoon handles down to save room. Large utensils, like tongs and serving spoons, can rest flat on the top shelf, while forks and knives are best off in the basket pointy side down, so you don't poke yourself unloading them.
Dishwashers do tend to blunt sharp knives over time, but this shouldn't be a massive concern for the cutlery knives you use every day.
The hot, moist environment inside a dishwasher also promotes corrosion and rust. While stainless steel knives resist rust better, they can still develop surface stains. Carbon steel blades used for many high-quality knives are especially vulnerable.
