"Finally, whether using the self-clean or steam-clean cycles, or even just cleaning the oven manually, always make sure that the unit has cooled to room temperature before attempting to wipe out the oven interior."
This is because the heat causes the grime and food to expand, which makes it easier to scrub off. Additionally, warm water will also be more effective at dissolving grease and grime than cold water. Be careful when cleaning a warm oven. Use oven mitts or gloves to protect your hands.
Some ovens dramatically clean a lot easier warm, and some when cold, as like some degreasers are designed to be used warm, and some are not. As Chris said I don't think all ovens can be cleaned 100% the same everytime, I find oily/greasy ovens are best cleaned cold and burnt/hard carbon ovens are best cleaned warm.
Clean immediately after use
As soon as you've finished using the oven, put a heat-resistant bowl of water inside and heat at a high temperature for 20 minutes. This will help loosen dirt and grease. When it's cool enough, wipe the interior surfaces to remove grime.
THE PROFESSIONAL BLADE AND SCRAPER METHOD
Spray Bio Oven Cleaner onto the inside of the oven. Leave it to work for 1-2 minutes whilst you prepare the blade and scraper. The Blade and Scraper Method is a professional cleaning trick used by oven cleaners.
It is generally recommended to wait at least an hour after cleaning your oven before cooking. This allows the oven to cool down completely and for any cleaning products or residue to fully evaporate. It is also important to ensure that your oven is completely dry before using it for cooking.
The best way to deep clean the inside of an oven is with a thick, homemade paste made by mixing 1 cup of baking soda with ½ cup vinegar. Mix your paste in a large bowl and then slather it evenly throughout the oven's interior. Let sit for at least six hours and then remove with a damp sponge.
To clean an oven glass door properly, you will need something that is abrasive and cuts grease. The best products for the job are baking soda, which is an abrasive, and Dawn dish soap, which cuts grease. For even more cleaning power, let it sit on the dirty glass for 15 minutes before scrubbing and wiping away.
Place a large oven-proof pot or pan filled with water (you can also add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the mix). Turn your oven on to 300°F and let the water bubble, steam, and do its thing for about 30 minutes. Turn off the oven, and let it cool. Finally, you can wipe it down with a water/vinegar solution.
Most ovens will let you select how long to run the cycle, usually anywhere from two to six hours. Select more or less time depending on how dirty the oven is. Hand-cleaning the oven as spills happen will make cleaning up after a self-clean cycle easier. Heavy soil results in longer cleaning times and more smoke.
In general, it's recommended to deep-clean your oven every three months to keep it clean and cranking out delicious dishes time after time. If you're cooking often, you may need to clean a bit more often, whereas an oven that's used less often will likely do just fine with quarterly cleanings.
Once the oven has completed its long (sometimes 1, 2, or 3 hours) self clean cycle, it will slowly cool down. After the oven has cooled down, you can easily clean out the incinerated debris. Now it's clean! There are also steam ovens that include self cleaning features.
Pleshek says the self-cleaning function on the oven works like this: It'll heat to between 500 degrees Fahrenheit and 550 degrees Fahrenheit, and the heat will bake off the grease and grime. Since the oven is turned so high, he says the grease and food remnants burn off and become ash.
We advise leaving the oven to air out for a night after cleaning before cooking in the appliance again. This will allow for all fumes from the detergent to disappear. The day after, give it a quick wipe with a damp cloth to remove any potential leftover detergent that can cause poisonous fumes and you're ready to go.
"Food on oven walls just burns and the burned food will make smoke that will flavor your food and not in a good way," he says. Karen Blakeslee, coordinator for Kansas State's food hotline, agrees. She says that food buildup can damage the inside of the appliance and reduce its heating efficiency.
You can use vinegar and water as an all-purpose oven cleaner, in conjunction with the heat of your oven, to steam clean stubborn grime and remove grease stains.
