Defiant locks share the same type of keyway with the Kwikset brand, which means that a Defiant key will fit into a Kwikset lock and vice versa. If all the locks on your house are Kwikset locks, you can still buy a Defiant lock and match it to work with your current house key.
You can find rekey kits at major hardware or home improvement stores. Once you have a kit, you will be able to rekey your lock anytime. To rekey a Defiant lock, you will need its original key. Other than that, the rekeying process is similar to rekeying any other lock type.

These sets use a Kwikset "Smartkey" and can be all keyed alike to each other, but not to Baldwin locksets that use a Baldwin stamped key.
The key alike number is basically a marketing code to help the consumer select locks in the store that are keyed alike. There is no way to trace the key alike number to the actual pins code. Defiant has over 7,000 key codes. Other brands like Kwikset also offer 7,000 key codes.
Defiant is definitely making significant improvements along the years. Just a few years ago, it would have never performed better than a standard Kwikset lock. Adding 3 security pins and a drill resistant plate shows that defiant is going in the right direction, while staying the most inexpensive lock you can buy.
A Kwikset SmartKey tool (One should've came with your lock, but if not, you can buy one on Amazon). The new (or rather, old) key that you want to use instead. This must be a Kwikset key, as Kwikset and Schlage keys are totally different from one another (and won't work in each other's locks).
First, insert the functioning key and turn it ¼-turn clockwise. Then, insert and remove the SmartKey learn tool. Follow by removing the functioning key, inserting a new key, and turning it ½-turn counter-clockwise. Your lock is then successfully re-keyed.

In comparison to other similar locks on the market, the Kwikset Kevo is reliable but expensive if you compare it to other locks in the same category. The Yale T1L, on the other hand, is a lot more competitively priced if you look at other similar types of smart door locks on the market.
Basically, you cannot re-key the lock from Schlage to Kwikset, but you can change the lock cylinder from Schlage to Kwikset. A locksmith will be able to do it for you. Changing the lock cylinder will still cost less from changing the lock itself.
This is because Schlage and Kwikset locks are not compatible with the same type of key. Their keyways are made differently, therefore you will either want to have all Schlage locks or all Kwikset locks. When you're at home, you don't want to use different keys for each lock you own.
