If you want a germ-killing cleaning solution with the convenience of a ready-to-use spray, try Clorox® Clean-Up® Cleaner + Bleach. Just remove excess dirt, and spray Clean-Up® Cleaner 4–6 inches from the surface until thoroughly wet. Let stand for 30 seconds, then rinse or wipe clean.
Perfectly safe in the kitchen. It's safe for food prep surfaces as well. Bleach is one of the safest cleaning products you can use so long as it's properly diluted.
Don't mix bleach with ammonia, acids, or other cleaners. Mixing bleach with common cleaning products can cause serious injuries.
Generally bleach can be used on floors made of hard surfaces like linoleum, vinyl, and ceramic tile. Bleach should not be used on marble or other porous surfaces. Wood is a porous surface so I wouldn't recommend using bleach to clean your floors.
Add 1 part bleach to 8 parts water to achieve a 1:9 dilution ratio before use. Clorox 1:9 bleach dilution exceeds the industry standard of 1:10. * New concentrated bleach solution requires 120mL versus 180mL in the previous formula.
Follow the directions on the bleach bottle for preparing a diluted bleach solution. If your bottle does not have directions, you can make a bleach solution by mixing: 5 tablespoons (1/3 cup) of bleach per gallon of room temperature water or. 4 teaspoons of bleach per quart of room temperature water.
Do not use on aluminum, chipped or cracked enamel, copper, brass, silver or unsealed wood, marble, tile or granite.
Use Dish Soap as a Mopping Solution for Most Floors
Here are two solutions to try using dish soap: Mix 1/4 cup mild dish soap and 3 cups warm water. Mix 1/4 cup dish soap, 2 cups white vinegar, 2 cups warm water, and 1/2 cup lemon juice.
Neglecting to rinse the floor thoroughly after using bleach can leave behind residue, which may lead to slippery surfaces and long-term damage to the flooring material. Understand the limitations of bleach and avoid using it on surfaces such as natural stone, carpets, rubber, and unfinished or waxed wood floors.
Mixing bleach with other substances can also create harmful situations. Adding ammonia to bleach creates chloramine, another toxic gas. Bleach plus hydrogen peroxide creates oxygen gas so violently, it can cause an explosion. “One should not mix household cleaners as a general rule,” Langerman says.
Clorox All-Purpose Cleaner with Bleach
This all-purpose cleaner contains harsh chemicals, including bleach. Bleach, as mentioned above, can cause damage to granite countertops, so this cleaner isn't recommended for use either.
Harmful if swallowed. For sensitive skin or prolonged use, wear gloves. Vapors may irritate. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors.
There is a clear reason for their advice. While bleach is capable of killing 99.9% of bacteria immediately on contact, it's also very poisonous. When bleach is used to clean food preparation surfaces, there's a high risk of contamination which could cause harm to humans.
Don't use it on countertops
Most bathroom and kitchen countertops are either laminate or stone, both of which bleach can erode, discolor, or damage, according to Wasson.
These methods include: Mopping: Using string, sponge, or microfiber mops combined with specialized solutions. Steam Cleaning: Utilizing gas-powered or electric steam cleaners for deep sanitization. Dry Vacuuming: Implemented alongside other methods for comprehensive dirt removal.
There's no need to rinse your vinegar-mopping solution from your floors. Keep in mind that your floors should be drying very quickly if you've wrung out your mop sufficiently.
Although heat doesn't really affect the cleaning power of each individual ingredient, the fast-moving water molecules in hot water aid in enhancing the overall aggression of the solution. Non-carpeted floors are typically vacuumed/swept and mopped with a floor cleaner diluted in either cold or hot water.
For best results, vacuum or sweep the floor before mopping to remove excess dirt and other particles. Mop or wipe with a cloth soaked in a disinfecting solution of 8 oz of Clorox® Bleach or Clorox® Scented Bleach in 1 gallon of water. To disinfect, leave the solution in contact with the surface for at least 5 minutes.
Mopping Technique
Dilute Properly: Mix ½ cup of distilled white vinegar with 1 gallon of warm water. Add a few drops of Dawn dish soap.
It is essential to avoid acidic products such as bleach, vinegar, or ammonia, as these can cause considerable damage.
After soaking or wiping, rinse well and let dry. Do not let bleach come in contact with other chemicals or products unless you know what you are doing as hazardous gases can be created. After the area being cleaned is fully rinsed and dry, you can safely use other products on it without waiting.
If undiluted bleach comes into contact with surfaces, sodium hypochlorite, which is the main active ingredient in chlorine, naturally breaks down. The residue that you see is salt. We do not recommend using undiluted bleach on surfaces. You should always dilute bleach before using it.
While the relative effectiveness of alcohol and bleach on bacteria and viruses does not vary greatly, it is important not to mix the two agents during cleaning.
